Meditation????????

So lately i have become fascinated about meditation, i must say i like the idea of a "deeper consciousness" but i feel i lack some important knowledge on how it is used and what it is used for in a general sense, me myself i'll admit im a bit of a radical thinker and like to think of it as a way to gain some kind of hidden power your mind possess, i feel as though this is a dramatized version of what meditation is, but cant help but believe it true. As for my personal experience with it, i have found myself in an "altered state of mind" while being awake and aware but also sleep and blank, it was almost as if i was sleeping but i was awake, weird maybe i was sleeping, felt allot more real then lucid as if i was actually just lost somewhere in my brain but there was nothing to be seen or no thought,ive also came out of a deep meditation and felt a huge pressure like cold water form over my body,very weird? im a novice at meditation and overall spirituality itself, but i now want to lean into a more realistic point of view on how i should use this to the best of my advantage, i also have had CEV's today while meditating with marijuana in my system but that may have been chemically induced, so i want to know if any of my meditation experiences seem fit for someone who is actually meditating or having a placebo of meditating, if that makes any sense to you. One more thing i would like to know,is if my technique is somewhat right, as of now i actually lay upright, hands by my side, take a deep breath ,close my eyes and then force myself to stop thinking,and just sit there and let the sounds or any distractions float by me, i also try not to move my body at all in order to keep myself from being brought back to "reality" and lastly i focus on my breathing which keeps my mind off of thinking.
