MEDITATION ~ Mega Thread

From what ive read I don't believe meditation and drugs go hand and hand. Drugs alter your state of mind/consciousness enough all ready and from what I understand theyre detrimental to the state of mind youre most likely trying to achieve through meditation itself. To each his own though.

the only drug ive enjoyed meditating on is cannabis

helps to slow my thought process and makes the experience a bit more pleasurable (i know pleasure isnt a goal of meditation)

i spent a good amount of time doing closed eye breathing exercises last night on shrooms, i noticed i was really fucking high so i sat there crisscross and just closed my eyes and drew breath. it was amazing for whatever reason. not sure if thats "meditation".

It can show you where you potentially can go - that's all proper set & setting psych experiences can do.

But as a general rule, it defeats the object...and needs to be left behind eventually and ultimately to progress to using nothing external to become ONE.

It's quite nice - I only done it a few times, mostly with ganja or mushrooms. But you need to leave it behind to get to where you want to go on your own merits.

I've used weed along with yoga asana practice. While it can be very enjoyable and and motivating - I don't gain much from it when I'm done. It also tends to throw off my balance enough to where standing poses are a mess. I've noticed marked improvement in my practice during longer periods of sobriety. They really don't mix if you are truly wanting gain something mental from it.

That being said, I sometimes use a small amount of weed b/c it's very motivating for me and I would otherwise not practice that day... not ideal, but the benefits of getting some daily physical exertion are sometimes worth the trade-off of a less than perfect asana practice.

tried with lsd and bit of shrooms..... cant visualy remember what I saw but I remeber clearly calling it clearest sharpest most vivid fractal manderbrot things ever..... it was so beautiful, too bad nobody reading this will understand, even for me its not possible to recreate that visual picture with sober mind

Agree with all of this! I've been to yoga classes whilst massively stoned, and whilst it's enjoyable, it doesn't feel as rewarding. It depends on what you want to get out of the experience, I guess. Once in a while is nice, but on the whole I prefer it sober.

Terrance McKenna has an interesting theory for meditation & drugs. He believes that meditation works well with psychedelic drugs, and that possibly meditation practices emerged as a tool during their use to enhance the experience.

Personally, I've found meditation to be just as useful as "spell casting" in wiccan beliefs. A placebo effect if anything at all.
