Medications for Surgery

I could probably find this somewhere else, but to save some time I'll ask here. I know it's probably been asked already, but I was wondering what kind of pain medication doctors give for getting your wisdom teeth out. Is it usually vikes or percs? Or do they give you something else like codeine? I'm having this done soon and was just wondering what to look forward to.

I've had 26 surgeries, maybe I can help you: usually the doctor or dentist will prescribe the lowest level analgesic that they can. Usually it's Tylenol #3 (in Canada anyway). I'm allergic (throat closes over, difficulty swallowing, neck swells), so whenever I need pain pills, I tell them about my allergy and I get Demerol instead. However, what may or may not be prescribed for you will depend on how well you know your doctor / dentist. Trust me, they're not going to give the real goodies to someone they don't know really well. ( Unless of course you have the misfortune to be allergic to the lower level stuff; see symptoms above).
Good luck with your surgery; the first two days afterwards will be the worst ones but it's not all that bad.

Canadagirl is right... they'll usually give you T3's, unless, of course, your wisdom teeth are impacted. If they are, you're likely to be moving up into Vicodin or Lortab- more than likely only 5/500's. The best thing I've heard anyone getting for impacted wisdom teeth was about 32 7.5/650 Vicodin. This was after alot of whining and complaining.

I got 18 5/325 Endodans (percodans.) What confused me about this is that aspirin (the "other" med in Percodans) inhibits blood clotting. I would have thought this would be undesirable in the case of impacted wisdom teeth...
