Hello all,

Sorry if there is a thread about this already, I tried doing a search and couldn't seem to find anything. Anyways I'm 20 years old and in the next couple of years I'm thinking about moving to Colorado. I've been there before and loved it, and aside from that, they have medical marijuana there. My plan is to go to pharmacy tech school starting in February.
Now my question is, how hard is it to either work in a medical marijuana store or open one?
My first guess is that it'd be very difficult, but I'd like to hear some other opinions...

Um ok I'll give you the dirty truth.

If you are a hot female, you can get a job without too much hassle in the dispensaries. If you are not, then you probably won't be considered.

As for starting you own business, you are going to need about 1/4 mil to start it up (the new bills in place have many $xpensive requirements). If that's not a problem for you, then you can do it pretty easy.

yeah where i'm from there is some head shops that will only hire 'hot' chicks (truthfully they are generally just skanky over make-uped alt chicks, i dont think i could call them hot really) i and many others boycott those stores because its trashy and stupid. I mean shit your trying to buy a pipe not get a lap dance wtf? They tend to be the more sketchy headshops with cheap over-seas glass anyway though, the more quality shops dont do that bs.

Its even grosser that they do that in dispensaries though. I mean your trying to get this heavily stigmatized drug to be accepted as a medicine and what do u do but put up a bunch of 420 stickers and stupid shit like that and hire a bunch of 'hot' chicks to work the counter. stupid as fuck man 8)

does anyone in these medical states try and say something about objectifying women and trying to use sex to sell cannabis?

^ It's a problem with any receptionist job out there man. And it's not so much about being "trashy" from what I have seen. In general, there are a lot more "classy" hot female receptionist than trashy imo, but I can see where it could potentially be a problem in other areas.

This view on jobs is more prevalent in new businesses, such as the Medical Marijuana industry. I don't know if anyone has tried to do much about the objectifying women thing. It's just the way shit rolls most of the time.

Opening a dispensary in CO is basically impossible at this point. Many cities and counties have outlawed them, and the ones that have not, have one in every spot possible. There are regulations on how close they can be to schools, each other, etc. I live in Denver and there are so many they are running each other out of business.

I suppose, but either way I guess it seems obvious that such things are counter-productive and just plain greasy. I feel like there should be a certain level of consumer responsibility where one realizes the impact of such things (like impeding mmj/legalization movements) and so the consumer should not give their money to such businesses. However i dont think people consider this much. I mean it seems like most people never seem to question how all these super powerful people/companies/etc. that everyone complains about because the screw people around or w/e get their money and power. Its because the average joe is handing them their fuckin wages to dick him around more.

ugh sorry suppose this is derailing the thread quite a bit.

either way what you guys have said in response to the op's question seems in line with what i have heard from friends in mmj states.

I am suppose to start Monday at the local dispensary. I've been out of work for almost a year. I'm willing to do it just to be a volunteer, get out of the house, and support my favorite cause.
