medical marijuana and cramps

Is it possible to get a Medical Marijuana license if you have severe menstrual cramps? Or would it have to be a diagnosed disease. I know there are labeled types of different degrees of menstrual pains...so I'm assuming I'd need to have one of those conditions in order to even qualify for a license...which sucks.
When that time of the month comes round I am in agonizing pain. Usually I take two tylenol but its been wearing off fairly quickly lately...and smoking a joint is a lot less harmful than popping several pills of whatever generic painkiller a day!
I've tried Aleve and it doesn't seem to help.
I am usually in so much pain I can't do much else than lie around in bed...or stumble off to the bathroom and groan in a scorching hot shower.
I swear I have the worst periods in the world!

but then again its only once a month for a few days.
so they may tell you no and prescribe you some stronger painkillers
 
if you have seen a doctor, and have been diagnose with a chronic pain condition, common treatments have failed, and the risks out weight the benefits. it depends on where you are really, but a written proven signed copy of a diagnosis of a chronic pain condition is usually a good reason for a MM recommendation, especially if it is an inflammatory problem.

try motrin or ibuprofen in the mean time and get your paper work in order.

im sorry your pain has gotten this bad...
 
its worth a shot, its definitely a traditional use for marijuana, and im sure there are modern studies that also support its use for cramps
 
Tylenol is useless, theres something to NSAIDs and uterine contractions I believe...ibuprofen works best for me, and my doctor and I have tried all sorts of pain remedies. Heating pad is also a must.


Marijuana is fantastic for nausea that comes with everything. However, for cramping pain, I think you really need a drug like an NSAID to actually get a decent amount of relief.
 
oh man, i suffer from a few severe auto immune entire body! inflammation disorders, and marijuana is it, next to $1k anti-inflammatory drugs and heavy opioids, which dont address he problem like thc or cbd's do.

id compare a joint of decent stuff to have the same effect as 5 grams of ibuprofen, 25mgs of hydocodone, 15mgs oxycodone, 3mgs hydromorphone iv, or 15mgs marinol, time after time.
 
endy- At 12 or 13 my mom taught me the tick of smoking to alleviate the cramps :) I do have female reproductive issues which make my cramps KILLER.....but smoking helped.
I don't smoke anymore but when I did, a joint would do more than the prescription strength NSAIDS I get.
Have you been checked? You are sure there is nothing wrong with you that make your cramps so terrible?
If you are sure there is no other issue going on, you can only try and see what happens!
 
i just renewed my medical marijuana paperwork last week so i'm fairly current on the requirements. you can definitely get approved with menstrual cramps as a reason (chronic pain, nausea, muscle spasms) but you need to have some kind of documentation in your medical records that shows a history of the problem. visit a doctor and get some kind of formal discussion on file about your cramps and then take that with you to your medical marijuana evaluation. mention that you have tried alternate/prescribed medications (e.g. ibuprofen) and found them less effective than marijuana or are worried about the strain on your liver from the pills.

my first medical marijuana recommendation was given to me based on complaints of menstrual cramps. i did not have any paperwork to support this - only my (true) stories of struggling with severe pain every month. the doctor that approved me that time has since had his license revoked. when i returned to the same clinic to renew, i explained the cramps situation again and the new doctor would not give me the recommendation even though i already had one in the past. he explained everything i said above about needing valid medical documentation that supported my claims of pain, and in his words, that documentation makes the difference between marijuana and medical marijuana. i was only able to get my weed card renewed at all because i had other paperwork handy from a recent unrelated surgery.
 
Read all of the posts and I thank everyone for the helpful advice. I'll check in with my doctor. It could just be me being a big baby or I could have a more severe type of cramping or whatever. I know poor diet and such also effects how harsh your periods are. At least that's what my mother insisted on telling me when I was moaning and groaning around the house.
In any case, I appreciate the feedback.
