I've been building up a long playlist from Youtube and have noted that for some seeminly random amount of time (from 5 seconds to over an hour), if I post a second video, it pastes the previous link.

I've pasted the link into another window to check it's not my mistake and each time it has been the music I intended to add.

I have left a few notes and tried to narrow down what is going on. I tried pasting it twice and it STILL used the old link. I may have been at fault but it's often the case I post as I find stuff which can be just seconds if I check just the first bit of the music to confirm it's the one I'm after.

Is there anything else I can do to help figure our where the fault is? It's been going on for a few weeks so who knows, if nobody else has come across it, it IS my fault. That's why I didn't report sooner. I kept thinking I must be doing something wrong. But after that random amount of time it DOES work, so I don't know...,

to make sure i understand.

you write a new post and paste in a url like: https://youtube.com/ABC

when you post the post, that video appears.

you then write a new post and paste in https://youtube.com/123

right so far?

when you paste in that url, what happens?
  • the url changes to https://youtube.com/ABC ?

  • or the url remains as https://youtube.com/123 but when you submit the post, the video that appears is the ABC video?

OK.

I find the music on Youtube.

I copy the link.

I paste the link to the thread.

I may add a bit of text.

I post it and it works fine.

BUT if I repeat the above process, rather than the second video popping up, it's the first video pops up.

I've messed around with it for a couple of weeks. I would delete posts when it went wrong and add a comment explaining that there appears to be a bug in whatever BBS software BL runs under. I tried various things to see if I could narrow down what was going on to try to help the coders. For example, I would open up another pane in my browser and paste the link into the address bar. The correct video would play.

But I think the odd thing is that I've kept that link and added it later and it works. Eventually it does work. But how long before it works seems to vary. Or at least I couldn't spot a pattern.

Forgive me, I'm getting old and I stopped coding 25 years ago. But that is how I would try to figure out a bug back then. I tried to find a divide-and-conquer stratergy but so far I've failed.

Cheers fella. Sorry to take up your time.

right, but if you check what you pasted before you submit the second post, is it the first video or the second video?

i.e. where is the video changing?

Mine did that for awhile I think I had to refresh the page before adding another video

OK - I have checked that the two links are different.

As I said, I could open up a new pane, paste the link and the correct video would play.

Now I don't know how BL software works but when I post for a split second I see the link then it becomes an image. The first frame of the video with a read button in the middle. The link looks OK.

@M!$TER-ED - I did try that. But cheers for the input.

@M!$TER-ED Will try that now. Thing is, sometimes it's fine. Sometimes it just works again and again. So it could take me a while to know if that's the fix. Cheers.

Give it time to cache 😁

( maybe don't hit the 'post' so fast ) !?! give it a moment or so to upload.

like wait a bit before you blat blat blat ;) ;) <3

edit : you might have jammed ;) ( clogged ) the system ❤️‍🔥

Damned thing won't do it now.

I just remembered that it seemed to do it in the late afternoon until the small hours. So I will test again later. In essence, I think when the server was busy.

Had my 2-nd track a lot of the times showing as the 1-st so i settled for 1.
And still even using re-fresh, am afraid it still [might] happen, something to do with either the browser [Chromium] or YouTube holding on to the old link. Think the last.

As most of the time, posting it seperate, or resolving it later. Requires a new search on YT. Using the tracks name. And still it seem s also connected to what YT remembers from your search history. Don t trust there privacy neither. They always seem to know me from previus i do. Despite icognito.

[free version, there is a paid one afaik] Wonder if that has influence on it ?

This issue doesn't seem reported within Bugzilla/Chrome forums(or r/

It can occur because of the latency between cpu and preferred browser. Nowadays browsers require 2GB of ram minimum and a quad-core, also a SSD/nvme.

Please try this on a more performant computer with a different keyboard and mouse. Up to date drivers too.

for legacy computers there's both engine forks. I can say Waterfox is very tame with ancient hardware.

Chromium(personalized) or give a shot to Brave maybe.

Interwebs are and seem to be alright. Starlink is doing even better.

Systems are working okay but there are a lot of jams. And delayed posting if you will. Weird.

Anyway, nice post !! Thank You.

But, yes it does get a bit unsettling. Now censorship. A concern too.

This was for interwebs concern. I am not pointing out. Specifically.

However, I'm hoping systems are good. Starlink definitely is doing real well.

And thank you for posting your s.t.h. It was good. ;)

I hope down for maintenance was quick and system is working again as well.

Or nothing is stuck in the Que anymore. Lol. Delay issues for sure and browsing bumps.

Thanks for post/helping out.

edit : oh jzus. this thread took off. have a great high speed day. or delay. 😁

Well - I use an I5 box with 8GB of RAM.

I used Microsoft Edge (don't judge me - there are reasons).

So hardly a gaming PC but it's less than a year old, does what I need it to do.

I tested earlier yesterday but events meant I couldn't test later. Which today I WILL do.

But if it is just me, It's more likely I'm doing something wrong than the BBS running BL.

Typical innit - works fine now!

It seemed to be when PMs went funny because I can recall people who would, I imagine PM a question were posting to the thread. But I'm not about to assert that the two things are connected. Because I would assume the two functions to be in entirely different parts of the code.

Will try later.

BTW it would bring up the correct video for a few frames (well, a fraction of a second) and THEN revert to the previous link/video. So for a moment it looked fine for that moment then *BING* previous video. It still appears to do that i.e. you post a link, it wraps it into the macro and displays it then flickers for a moment and NOW after that moment it's still fine. Sorry for being inprecice. I've only ever been on the other side of these issues i.e. someone handing ME a bug report and ME being the one who had to fix it.

BTW I suck at everything but assembly language. So I don't think in OOP.

to correctly identify your configuration, go and download https://www.aida64.com

there you can see all things.

I've noticed invisibile details recently changed in browser configuration, you gotta understand that their up-to-date with either windows or unix-systems, therefore many now require windows 10(22H2) standards, which means less and less support for legacy hardware in recent application even though they will still continue to function, they will not be able to compete with DDR4/5 systems or new generation CPU's.

I saw this first time when I was in Saudi Arabi, then I've proceed to also change my server system to something else. I had a XEON cpu can't recall the model atm, will tell if there's pursue, and I haven't had a mobo for it, so, now I do therefore is up and running. I had to get some calls to get such new mobo, has some certain suffering elements that not many can keep up with but it makes up for.

For those who have ~8GB(less) use pagefile/zRAM.

1024 minimum/2048 max

Sorry @Shady's Fox - was that post aimed at me?

I'm totally unfamiliar with that software.

It's Windows 11 and to the best of my knowledge the most recent build.
