/me thinks talking in the third person is getting overused

(oh well, I had to say it)

If we were all so serious then this would be VERY boring. The reason I look at thing's in a humorous way is because if I got serious about all the shit in my life, I would kill myself... or someone else.
Therefore to counter act people such as yourself, being a more serious contributor, I for one would like to be the court jester, along with others, to balance to the force.
*bunny dances aound BMW*
Yes, I do use that a lot. BUT SO WHAT? people comlain too much, people whinge too much, people eat too much, people hate to much, people fight too much, people swear too much, people kill too much......!
WHADDYA GONNA DO? Complain about everything? Or accept the fact that it happens and go on enjoying life?
Cause if you complain about eveything, you end up being the complained about....

Nobody said everythin has to be serious...sheesh, look at me in IRC and the mischief I get up to in there - I hardly fink I'm serious all the time....hehehe
I didn't say cut out all non-serious stuff from here....hell that'd be sooooooo borin...I just was sayin maybe we should keep the huuuuge chatty threads in moderation - simply because there is LIMITED server space...as those of us who were around then saw when the old server collapsed....I'd just hate to see the same thing happen to this one, especially since I doubt there'll be money for a new one
frown.gif

Sure, if we get told there's unlimited space and money, I'm all for postin whatever the hell u want......but at the moment I'm advocating everythin in moderation, just cause I wouldn't like to see BL screwed up and inaccessible like it got wif the old server..........ack, how much did it suck havin all the threads die and havin to wait days for em all to come back up so u could post?? (bunny i dun think u were on BL then, so i dun expect u to understand how frustratin it was!!)
Nuthin should be totally stopped.....but everythin should be in moderation.....IMHO

Don't make mountains out of mole hills. I think I've been pretty clear exactly what type of third person discussions I'm talking about (re-read what I've written carefully if you're still not sure). I understand that it's a form of expression, but my problem with it is that it should be expressed on the bluelight IRC channel, not in every damn thread.
I honestly don't think I'm proposing all that much of a radical change. It's not like I'm saying "cut out the personal jokes" or anything. What I'm trying to do is make people think about whether they're adding anything useful when they post, so maybe we can stop the post count from going up at the rate of the split-second part of a stopwatch.
If you think this sort of whinging is unjustified or annoying, wait until the bandwidth re-clogs up and they take away the search button again. Without a search button you won't have to put up with people like me asking you to cut back, you'll be putting up with people coming in from the drug forums debating whether Social should be shut down completly. I got in numerous heated debates defending social last time that happened, with plenty of different people. The way social is at the moment though, they'd probably be right.

one of the reasons I'm not posting so much anymore is cause there are soooo many personal third person jokes that I just don't get nor understand. It alienates those who aren't part of the clique.

i think the third person is funny. nothing against it at all - but i suppose i haven't been around long enuf to get sick of it...
bunny does it best! - never stop using those *...* - i luv u the way u r!
smile.gif

*hugs bunny and all other third person people*
*pokes tounge out at cynical worry warts*
sorry, i'm not easily annoyed, and luv people for who they are - if they do the *...* thing or not!

I agree.
Social is incredibly frustrating to read because it ends up as a thread with 30 replies, 28 from the same spastics who have posted in every other thread.
Tomfoolery is ok, but back and forwards flirting/annoying is plain tiring.

This place has more wack cliques than high school... Some of the post whores should perhaps contribute to other forums without just LIVING in social the whole time, and owning the place. Just about all the older bluelighters don't post anymore, and I don't blame them...

As Thoth said, miss apples isn't the only one who doesn't post anymore because they feel alienated by the cliquey groups that have formed here, I know a few interstaters and melbournites who feel the same way...
Not only that, but many new bluelighters have told me they were scared to post for a while because they felt they would either be ignored/flamed
...That's not the way I want this place to be...
As Pleo said, there's no need to cut out everything, just please think before you post, and if what you want to post is only relevant to a select few, email em or something...

*Bunny nods at Tars*
I agree. Don't alienate or flame people so much. Let's welcome all!
*Bunny hugs newbies*
And stiff titties if u dun like my third person routine. It adds depth to my character

I have to agree with Pleo, Tarsy and Miss Apples - it gets really annoying!! I mean it's always been an aspect in Bluelight, and some of it is all good and well but in moderation please!
And I agree with Miss Apples that it alienates people and it's fucking annoying to have to go through so many post that are nothing but delayed chats.
Use ICQ and spare us all - or better still how about doing something half normal and talking to your friends in person - now there's something than can give you character!

Dude, the 30 responses before you should answer your question... just stick to meetups if you'd prefer and let us have our debate...
Ya know I luv ya, but really, was that needed? Bluelight actually is still important to some of us...
Lets not make this more of a flame war than it already almost is...

Pleo's right guys.
And it's not just something that pisses him (and many more of us) off, it's part of the forum guidelines.
Resist the urge to post if it's not going to contribute something meaningful to the discussion.
You'll be helping to make this forum a much nicer place to hang out.

But Pleo, that was my opinion on the matter...
You can please all of the people some of the time, and some of the people all of the time... But alas never ALL of the people ALL of the time...
I'm sure there's people who people who consider what you or I post as a waste of time...
Do correct me if i'm wrong, but isn't this forum called 'Social'. Therefore wouldn't that imply its use to be just that?!?
Ps... I agree all the shit talking pisses me off too, but that doesn't mean it shouldn't be allowed...
Ps... Eat dick nigga!
Oops... There goes my post quota for the month... Back in my box...
wink.gif

It's all good, it's just the "has no one got anything better to do with their lives" comment that got to me... because it implies that we don't, and you so obviously do...
You know me better than anyone on this board, and also know where I'm coming from and what I mean with this post...
smile.gif

And to clear it up again, I'm not proposing a ban on anything (everyone is free to carry on exactly how they are if they'd really like to), but I was just hoping for more thought before people post - for no reason other than bandwith if you'd like me to actually give tangible reason!

Pleo... The actual quote was:
"Has no one got anything better to do with their lives then worry about this sort of shit..."
Nothing was meant by it except that I believe this topic to be no better than the shit talking you refer to... You've read to far into a crass offhand comment...
I do apologise though...

Methinks that Moderators (I dont really know what they do or why they care more than anyone else) would be well served to let things run their course more frequently.
If things are annoying and alienating, in a place like bluelight, you should just let them die a natural death. Boring stuff like this will probably become passe and die out, just like whistles, dummies and cokeheads(someday soon).
Pleo, you've made the mountain out of the molehill. You brought it up. No-one else did.
As far as I can tell, most of the stuff that Moderators do just make newbies feel inferior and therein chips away at the freedom of speech that we're all lovin' in this crazy internet place.

Taken from Bluelight Social Guidelines:
A diatribe written by abygale: "A lot of people around here, while hiding behind the First Amendment, don't seem to really understand the meaning of "freedom of speech." They argue all the time that "I can say whatever I want -- I have freedom of speech!!" ... well, that's true… you may SPEAK whatever you want. But the person or people who provide an avenue for communication are in no way bound to allow you to say what you want in the space they paid for ... it would be like me insisting that Macy's has to include my opinion in their full-page ad in the Sunday Times, because I have first amendment rights. They paid for the ad -- I have no right to say anything at all in that space.
That is the situation with Bluelight. It was created, is owned and operated by Jase and Skydancer, who have entrusted the mods and admins with the power to try to help them run it in the way Jase and skydancer intended. This is not a democracy. There is no right to free speech here. Forum guidelines must be obeyed, or you will lose the privilege of posting."
