MDMA Urinary Retention & How to Avoid It

I find squatting like a girl, somewhere other than a boring toilet, helps ..... Sitting on a toilet seat, not so much.

Oh, God, how I'd love to refit my outside privy with a French-style squatting toilet ..... you know, the type they have in the motorway service stations and on the cheap campsites .....

this might also be because the pelvic muscles relax when squatting. remember, women give birth like that....

Not really (although there are times when a combination can actually be safer than one of the individual drugs by itself). Basic HR is, if you must take two drugs together, then make sure you have tried each one on its own at least once first, so you have some idea what to expect -- and remember that the effects might be amplified or attenuated. Also, make sure someone who has not taken drugs is within reach, if not physically then telephonically.

It certainly makes a difference, in my experience. THINKS: I wonder what other fun and funky stuff nearly half the population hardly ever discover?

well, i can tell you that most men will end up discovering peeing sitting down or squatting in their old age due to prostate problems... so it may only be a matter of time...

regarding alcohol, its worth taking in consideration the usual effect it has on a person, as for instance in me it can give me tremendous hangovers which are not good on a mdma comedown....

If you're drinking beer, you're consuming something which is 90%+ water. It's only really when you stop that the dehydration starts. I've had many, many nights with only lager/cider to drink, and I've had hardly any issues with pissing, or feeling dehydrated. Nailing shots and having nothing else could end up a lot different. I always feel dehydrated the day after, even if I stick to just water. Obviously, drinking plenty of water afterwards (and even alternating booze and water during the time you're high) will stop you waking up like a prune. If you're taking MDMA in a house, and not dancing/sweating/overheating, you don't really need to drink any more than you normally would. A lot of people think MDMA causes serious dehydration, when it's really the exercise and heat that are the causes.

Whilst the notion of MDMA making it almost impossible to urinate while under the influence will come as no shock to many, it seems there is a lack of any actual information within the community.
MDMA induces the relatively severe retention mainly due to its impact on a specific hormone, though a multitude of factors contribute, and as such it is possible to counteract the effect by reversing the induced changes.

The hormone affected is Anti-Diuretic-Hormone, which as the name suggests plays a large part in the physiological regulation of water levels and urine excretion. MDMA causes ADH levels to spike in the bloodstream, reducing the amount of water passing through the kidneys and excreted.
MDMA also induces a major increase in body temperature, dry mouth and extreme sweating - water is being lost from the body through the sweat, helping to reduce the hyperthermia. However, many users insist on drinking as much pure water as possible, in a misguided attempt to cool off and reduce toxicity.
This addition of large amount of fluid to what is, as a result of retention, now in effect a closed biological system results in the dilution of blood plasma, reducing the concentration of the ions which which are crucial for our survival to maintain. Namely, Sodium (Na+), Chloride (Cl-), Calcium (Ca2+) and Magnesium (Mg2+) control and regulate intracellular functions, neurosynaptic impulses responsible for conscious and unconscious control, not to mention the very capacity of muscle tissue to relax and contract (Rigor Mortis is a result of this).

The sweat pouring off the brow of the average raver also contains those valuable salts, every drop adds up, and the wiping away of it only causes the body to produce more, losing more fluid and salts.

Eventually, the body can no longer function, the simple maintenance of salt concentration has been altered, the muscles cannot be used, confusion, seizure, coma... death. This is what occurs in supposed cases of MDMA overdose and toxicity. Literal exhaustion of something as simple as a few charged particles.

Consuming an inhibitor of ADH alongside your MDMA is one of the simplest ways to avoid becoming tomorrow's front page due to sweating yourself into an embarrassing death on the sticky floor of a rave.

Alcohol is a potent inhibitor of ADH, which is what causes the absolutely relentless desire to urinate when drinking. It is difficult to give advice on dose/units for a multitude of reasons, but for most people 3 or 4 units of Alcohol is sufficient to have an impact on hormone levels without being too psychoactive/intoxicating. Unfortunately, many in the rave scene wrongly believe Alcohol to be the worst thing to combine with MDMA, alongside simply not wanting to detract from the empathogen. This misinformation kills people.

It shouldn't come as a surprise that adding an anxiolytic intoxicant like Alcohol to MDMA can lead to even more questionable behaviour than either alone, this can be highly dangerous such as deciding to operate two tons of speeding metal. It can lead to less immediately lethal but still dangerous choices such as engaging in reckless/unprotected sexual conduct or police/medical attention for your own safety.

Stay safe

Which bit of this is the "quick tip", please? :)

Paragraph 4 following onto 5. ;)
Thought it would help to have background as opposed to 'drop Molly, get pissed, yeah?'
