Has anyone noticed these new adds against MDMA use in Australia. The add says

"Ecstasy! Made in a toilet then popped in your mouth!"

I couldn't help but laugh at this nonsense! What are we going to see next?

"Methamphetamine! Manufactured in a bikers armpit and probably farted on!"

What do people think about the myths surrounding drugs?

I think those ads are patently ridiculous but what's sad is that most people who don't go on BL will believe that shit.

One time I tried explaining to someone that you couldn't cook MDMA in a toilet and that those ingredients they mention are misleading to say the least... and then I had to explain how I know that, and answer questions about whether I was some kinda master drug maker or something, oh lordy people are dumb.

^Oh people have NO FUCKING IDEA. It's not rocket science to simply understand that using a toilet as some kind of chemistry lab is a stupid idea, first and foremost because its dirty, secondly because it's awkward, and thirdly because most people have a kitchen, which may likely have some kind of heat source, fume hood and other kinds of useful tools.

But yeah also the ingredients they try to generalize in to the equation. They never actually use chemical names (except when mentioning cyanide) or they almost always say shit like "rat-sak" and "draino"... Instead of mentioning the ingredients of those products that are useful in clandestine production.

Bah its all fucking retarded.

They're trying to assimilate with the intelligence of the viewer like the majority of advertisements do. It's not like when MDMA is cooked up it's the cleanest process around there are some very unhygienic practices and that's what these ads are using to turn a potential or current ecstasy user off. I'm not saying it's right for a second but it's the easiest way to get the attention of the targeted young demographic. That said it's a path that leads a lot of users to hating the government when the exaggerated advertisements don't reflect their actions with respect to MDMA.

If hygiene was a concern you wouldn't ever set foot in a resturant. Lets forget about simple acts such as hand washing that would only be practiced by 50% (yeah, right) of the population. The number of people in the community that have bleeding gums would be massive. These same people also place cutlery in their festy, blood soaked mouths and the only way these are cleaned is with a dishwasher. Not exactly a medical grade autoclave.

Although sterile production methods would be ideal I doubt the average punter gives a shit as they hoover a line in a bathroom stall or dip a grubby finger into a baggy.

Personally I think the advertisement is effective for the reason I stated. If the government started doing these same ads with restaurants then I'm sure it would turn off the targeted demographic as well.

Anyone got a vid link to the ads? I don't watch commercial free to air, so I haven't seen them.

I don't know if there is a vid link, I haven't scene any tv ads for the campaign. I saw the ads as posters in the pub loo.

Yeah, what there doing here is associating a 'dirty' image/idea that everyone recognizes as filthy (IE: toilet) and then linking it to drug use/manufacturing to give the general public the impression that it's filthy.

I guess you could say its almost like subliminal messaging.

I drink coffee from a cup that has had millions of chemicals in it every day. Carbon an ingredient in acetone an ingredient in paint thinner.

Coffee Cups, time to face facts!

^Yeah you should ;) Making mdma in my toilet would be great for keeping it clean yeah ?! Then i could piss off my bottle of EASY OFF BAM and bleach! ;)

Anyone stupid enough to take any notice of those adverts or for such advertising to have an effect on should not be using drugs.

I think the government is really really smart in that they have designed an advert that can specifically target the audience they want to get to...........

The dirty toilet add, is ALWAYS on at the cinema, it comes on inbetween previews I'll see if I can find it, if not Sykliks post is the most similar.

I like how the ads say "Face the facts".

If you notice in the picture, there is a stove next to the toilet. No one has a stove in the bathroom, so none of this is fact. :D

I have a stove in my toilet. I also have a toilet in my kitchen.
