What i'm wondering is how often MDMA is the sole contributor to ecstasy-attributed deaths. Around 30 people in the UK die every year from MDMA and i'm just wondering how many are purely because of a bad reaction to the chemical. I'd have thought that the vast majority were due to dehydration, over heating, OD'ing or mixing it with another substance. I'd say there would be far less deaths if people just did a simple allergy test before use.

I'm no expert on chemistry though so it would be great to get some more knowledgeable advice. cheers.

According to Erowid.org (wich is a trusted database of drug knowlegde) theres a "small risk of death; approximately 2 per 100,000 new users have extreme negative reactions resulting in death (rare)"

God bless erowid! I guess the real problem is people mixing the pills (which could be solved if we legalised and regulated)

I think it would be near impossible to say for sure, as any statistics are bound to be rife with inaccuracies from anti-drug propaganda, people who have taken bad pills and just called it "ecstasy" and overall just not knowing the TRUE factor of death when MDMA is actually the cause. The most famous MDMA deaths are usually from things like drinking too little and dancing all night, or even drinking WAY too much water and diluting the blood so much that they end up dying. These deaths are often attributed to MDMA but, in safer conditions, usually wouldn't have occurred at all.

It would be interesting to know, but I don't think you'll be able to find any reliable data on the subject. Don't let that stop you from looking for it, though ;) it's more like a challenge!

^^ Hmm, I wonder how they figured that? Whether that's MDMA alone or all "ecstasy"

It is not usually the mdma that causes the deaths, it is when pills being sold in uk as 'ecstasy' or even crystal mdma is being cut and contaminated with PMA or PMMA or Piperizines (maybe not deadly but, Unpleasant, Also added neurotoxicity when actual mdma is added to the mixture) or other substances that are not MDMA/MDA/MDEA or another similiar substance methylone

MDMA deaths are more likely to occur for other reason, take leah betts for example, she panic'd and drunk loads of water, thinking she could 'flush it out' or something and because mdma causes urinary retention she got overhydrated and her brain swelled and she died.

Overheating, someone dancing for hours and hours on a dancefloor maybe overdoing it a little bit too much could also cook up and die .

best advice is arm yourself with Reagent test kits

I think there is bigger chance that you will get hit by asteroid, than you get killed by a MDMA alone.

We have to remember that everyone reacts different to everything. Some people die cause they ate one single peanut. It is not unreasonable to think the same applies to MDMA. Everyone who are new to the drug are taking an unknown risk, its that simple.
It's rare yes, but not impossible to think you could die from an allergic reaction to this particular molecule we call MDMA. It is however, alot more likely to die from irresponsible drug use, like eating MD from an unknown source without testing it. PMMA and other nasty stuff is everywhere, this is the real world

Put it this way. More People die from cigs every year. More people die from prescription pills every year. Its a very low amount of people that die from MDxx every year. The problem is every time "Extacy" kills someone who knows if it was actually MDxx in the pill or a deadly combo of RC's. Those stats are flawed to say the least.
