MDMA cut with PDE5 inhibitors such as Viagra?

In Wikipedia articles (various languages), I find it mentioned multiple times that researchers observe an increased recreational use of the combo MDMA + a PDE5 inhibitor such as Viagra or Cialis. The German Wikipedia entry on Sildenafil even mentions that street MDMA is increasingly cut with these substances to compensate for the common MDMA side effect of erectile disfunction.

My questions for the forum:

1.) What are the dangers of combining MDMA with Viagra or similar compounds?

2.) How prevalent is the problem? Do the well-known drug testing sites check for cuts such as Viagra? Is it possible to uncover the contamination via reagent testing?

I honestly have no experience in this area but I can tell you that I don't know of a single pill submission cut with viagra, it tends to be more expensive than other adulterants on the street and wouldn't likely have any real effect on the MDMA itself while other active cuts do. I would imagine that the combination would be much harder on the heart though as Viagra is a vasodilator while MDMA is a vasoconstrictor, such combinations can lead to increased risk of a hypertensive crisis which can increase the risk of a stroke, you're also dealing with MDMA's effects on thermal regulation and cardiac stimulation. It doesn't sound like a pleasant combination to me personally.

Sounds like something someone would do if they were capping their own crystal and knew they'd be picking up, but experience ED from MDMA.

Thanks for the replies, particularly the remarks about the potential drug interaction.

In the meantime, I also found the entry on Viagra in the directory. Interestingly, many people in the discussion linked there seem to think the combination is reasonably safe. The discussion is very old though and possibly outdated.

While I wouldn't at all say it's "safe", I'm certain people regularly mix much riskier things together without a second thought for possible interactions or compounding of side effects.

Like smoking tobacco while rolling....doesn't nicotine restrict the blood vessels in your brain to some degree? That combined with something like MDXX/amphetamine would surely increase the risk of stroke somewhat, no? But we do it anyway like it's nothing.

benefits:
able to get and keep an erection while rolling.
study in rats shown that PDE5 inhibitors can actually decrease MDMA neurotoxicity. (study link: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/21948520 ) this does not necessarily translate to humans, for many reasons, but it's a good sign

possible negative effects:
priapism (never had this happen to me)
heart strain

also: absolutely do not mix if you have any kind of heart condition. they both put different kind of strains on the heart. they act in different ways. some think they cancel each other out (example: one increases blood pressure, one reduces). others say they could exacerbate each other. the point is, if you have a heart condition, you should not be taking either of these drugs, let alone both

anyways, i take it a step further and take both levitra (vardenafil) and viagra (sildenafil) to make sure there are no problems saluting while rolling. 20mg levitra 30 min before dropping, 50mg of viagra 30min after dropping

there are plenty of anecdotal reports of people taking PDE5 with MDMA and if you're healthy, it's probably fine.

one tip: do not take them at the same time. you don't want the sudden drop in blood pressure from viagra hitting you at the same time the mdma does.

Vasodilator and vasoconstrictor, don't they cancel each others out? Hypertensive crisis, from what I understood it's caused by high blood pressure.
