Hi,

I was wondering if anyone has had some slight cardiovascular problems after using MDMA?

I roll quite often and have recently found out that I have rather high BP 145/100 and I also have slight atrial flutter.

150 mg doses can lead to serum levels that meet the EC50 for induction of valvular fibrosis due to 5HT2b agonism.

It is not a guarantee you will get it, but it seems to happen to susceptible individuals. It (5HT2b agonism instigated valvular fibrosis) is the same thing that got fen-phen banned.

i have always had a rather high blood pressure 140/90 until i started with stims (mostly amphetamine with occasional mdma). now (when i was taking them regularly but also now that i'll only take something once/twice a year) i'm around 115/75 most of the time. of course i wouldn't claim that there is a causal link, but the timing sure make me think that there could be one.

cardiac fibrosis shouldn't be a concern with occasional use. there's not a single reported case of it being a problem after mdma use. it can cause fibrosis and they did see signs in one study, but we haven't seen anything to a clinically relevant degree yet, even with many people abusing mdma. of course the cases were sparse even with fen-phen, but fen-phen was used daily by people and we have good reason to assume that 5-ht2b agonism is much more or only problematic with drugs that are taken every day.
