Is it possible to be taking zoloft (sertraline, a strong SSRI) regularly (50mg/day) and still roll?
If not...
does anyone think that giving up zoloft for 1-2 weeks (about 4 times a year) would have any significant effects on my treatment (social anxiety, causing minor-medium depression)?

I know i should ask my doctor this, but i don't have the balls... so any help would be greatly appreciated.

No.

Not sure that you would have got all the zoloft out of your system. The withdrawal from ssri's can range from quite to very difficult, and i don't think throwing mdma into that mix is a good idea. You should be supported by a doctor and your family thru that period.

thanks for the quick response. Guess i have no choice, its going to be difficult but i guess ill be raving straight from now on. For the best, i guess.

I actually didn't consider withdraws from the SSRI's, i'm glad you brought it up. Thanks again.

Realistically, it is not IMPOSSIBLE to experience MDMA while on an SSRI. The problem is not usually having the drug out of your system (most SSRIs other than fluoxetine (Prozac) have half-lives of 10-14 hrs). The problem is post-synaptic 5-HT receptor downregulation/desensitization. 50 mg is actually a small dose of sertraline (I was on 200mg at one time). If you are rich, you could try not taking the sertraline for 36 hours (enough to lost steady-state concentrations, but not long enough to go through withdrawal) and then take 2x-3x the MDMA that would normally affect you. Try not to go over 225-250mg, however, as cardiac effects might be dangerous.

Did you take MDMA during the period that you were taking 200mg doses of Zoloft, if so did you experience anything at all?
I usually take halves at a time (3 full over a night), to prevent MDxx associated nausea that I get a lot of the time. Is nausea on ecstasy related to dosage or effect? For example if I took 2 pills and obtained the effect of half, would I have the same degree of nausea as if I only took half, or for two? (Hope that makes sense)

Riemann Zeta -- in the interests of harm reduction I feel its better to accept that one is on a medical treatment for a reason and not to use a drug which interferes with that.

Moreover research has shown that continually elevated serotonin levels are necessary to effect the neurogenesis that seems to be at the heart of the antidepressant effect. Stop that and you're likely to get back to square one, in some sense.

Yeah. I prefer the 45 mgs hyperforin and 300 mgs 5htp I take. It doesn't interfere with rolling and is about as effective as the 40mgs of prozac I took years ago. I also take .5 mgs xanax at night. With occasional breaks. Although I may try to switch to klonopin or ativan. I'm still considering.

The Hyperforin seems to extend the roll and I have to stop the 5htp about 8hours before I roll to prevent blocking the roll. Allthough I've rolled 4hours after 5htp with most effect still present but still slightly muted.

What is the half life of fluox? Will it be out of my body 2 weeks after stopping 20mg daily? Will it be enjoyable /safe to take MDMA pills?

Still on that neurogenis angle, eh velocide?

Yeah, after 2 weeks, you'll be able to roll.

But if your on the drugs for a good reason, then I think it would be unwise to quite just for a few shits and giggles.

???

"and I have to stop the 5htp about 8hours before I roll to prevent blocking the roll."

I've heard of people taking 5-htp to improve a roll or help with neurotoxicity (which isn't proven) but ive never heard of it decreacing a roll. Any info on that or just personal experience?
Thanks,
Jesse

bilz0r -- I'm yet to hear a better theory, especially one which explains the delayed onset of efficacy.

Even if neurogenesis isn't right, there are studies which show intermittent antidepressant administration does not achieve a reduction on measures of depression.

dopefiend -- many people report that taking 5-HTP too close to a pill diminishes or mutes the experienec

Yep. 5htp too close to the roll mutes it. The fun body rushes and blowups are muted. Best not to take within eight hours.

I find Hyperforin to be a better antidep/anxiolitic than SSRI's. And it doesn't diminish the roll, or a 2ci trip for that matter. :)
