I know MDMA is really still in its infancy when it comes to long term testing and what it's side effect may end up being long term.

While I was researching some things, something came to mind..

I recall (don't quote me on this ) reading that people who smoked substances out of Aluminum .. (IE, foil shaped into a pipe, Coke can with a bowl pushed into it ect. ) were more likely to suffer Alzheimer....
I also know that mercury comes with its own long list of side effects..

As you may or may not know both of these substances are used in the production of MDMA. The Mercury by-product from making about 15g of MDMA is not too much more then breaking an old school thermometer.. that can still be enough to make someone quite ill. Our bodies do naturally break down mercury as it is found in our food supply. ( it is very heavily found in fish. ) To the point that pregnant woman are told to limit or stop eating fish and sea life altogether while pregnant. Thus leading one to think that it really does not take that much to start harming our systems.

I do not know what the %'s of these chemicals are in a reg does of MDMA or how long it takes for our systems to purge it if it does at all.. I'm sure for the occasional user there is not much concern to have.. but for those that roll once every six weeks or more.. We have all read about or know, those people that roll every weekend for months on end.. How much might be building up in their systems? Could these be some of the factors that have been over looked when people have "burn out" and start to feel lost in that haze from over uses?

Has anyone else ever seen anything on this anywhere? What's your thoughts on this?

its actually been around quite a long time now..

i would be very careful of aluminium

mercury is also not good. dont eat too much big fish like marlin cause high in merc. top of the food chain baby.

i think you could definitely be onto something here and i truly appreciate your thread!! finally a decent thread imo.

many times high on mdma or coming down iv thought about Alzheimer's and other similar movement disorders. i dont really know why but i just get the feeling the negative effects of mdma are quite similar to what alzheimers suffers face. i have spent a bit of time around chronic Alzheimer's patients and the effects seem similar to me, movement issues, memory issues, derealisation etc.

everything in moderation. its hard to moderate something so beautiful though. yolo

safrole is highly toxic to the liver. many of the solvents that were used old school MDMA synths are cancer causing agents and you already hit on elamental mercury that is produced durring reaction.

but the ammounts of these chems that are left in the product are extremely tiny. The worst IMO would be unreacted safrole as it is sai to be the cause of the brown color of unwashed MDMA. If you got brown MDMA...I think your liver is going to be taking more of a hit that pure white but I really don't know for sure.

also the process for making MDMA has changed dramatically over the last 10 years because of the precursors being watched by the DEA. the stuff you find online about how to mak MDMA is years behind the processes they are using now. I know that they don't even use safrole in the synth for MDA now and are usning a chemical that is not watched or regulated in anyway. This is not the place to disscuss it, but I do wonder what the cutting edge synth uses these days. I know they have improved the process but it is a highly gaurded secret. it will only come out after the feds bust it or the chemists find a better way.

Yes I have heard that the synth process in some places has changed.. that just lead me to question if it is really MDMA that is being produced as there would be a molecular change in what is being made. OR if what they are now using is even WORSE for our systems..

I think this is why I would like to have "drugs" like MDMA legal so that we can at least know what is going into them..

Everyone is always so hung up on what it might or might not be doing to the brain, but you never see studies on what it might or might not be doing to the rest of our systems as well.

I'm with Laugh in that I have wondered the same things on come down and after words on many occasions..

The same solvents (or very similar solvents) are still used, regardless of which synth route. Also, although the starting materials have shifted due to the inavailability of safrole/sassafras oil, the routes are still convergent and the later steps are often the same as they have always been.

Also, safrole is not the cause of the brown color in unwashed MDMA. Safrole is clear.

Met a pharmacology student at a rave on news years and he said that the colour is down to how long its kept in the evaporating basis/pan? Something like that, I can't exactly remember, he was high, I was high... Basically his message was colour tells you nothing about purity or quality what so ever.

It can tell you if the final product was washed much. No matter the synth route, repeated acetone washes WILL produce a white or off-white powder. However, it only takes a very small amount of impurity to discolor an entire sample (of MDMA or of anything), so just because it wasn't washed and isn't white doesn't mean it won't be potent.

Arbitrary percentages here, but the point still stands - if a washed sample was 99% pure, a dirty brown sample could still be as high as 98% pure. Not enough difference to notice in the potency of the roll. A pure white sample could also be adulterated or fake and be as low as 0% pure. All in all, yeah, the student you met is right, color doesn't tell you anything that you can reliably use to know about the purity or quality.

Bacon gives you cancer and heart disease.

Everything you do has a long term risk, from showering in the morning to getting in your car.

You are correct Struttergear, just about everything runs a risk of some sort.. But knowing what those risk are and being able to make educated decisions based on that knowledge is what in important.

I know the risk behind a lot of substance and have decided that I am unwilling to partake of them based on that knowledge.

as for color.. I too have been informed by a few sources that its more due to the amount of time that it sits in the evap. then anything else... I was told by someone along with that info that it can depend on the room in which its made as well.. So when the Evap is running if its a "CLEAN ROOM" VS a reg. room can change the color due to the air that is introduced as drying agents. I don't know how much of that is hear say or truth .. just what I was told..

If it's pure MDMA then there shouldn't be any catalysts or byproducts present in the product at all. That's why it is MDMA. Usually stuff like that is distilled/filtered/etc out.

Have you ever sent a sample to be tested by mass spectroscopy? Because unless you have you have no idea how pure it is. I wouldn't be suprised if the purest mdma you can get is only like 90% pure. Not saying that is the case. I'm just saying that we just don't really know.

As you may or may not know both of these substances are used in the production of MDMA. The Mercury by-product from making about 15g of MDMA is not too much more then breaking an old school thermometer.

The amount of a mercuric salt needed to form the aluminum amalgam needed to reduce enough MDP-2-P/MeNH2 to make 15g of MDMA is way less then what's in a thermometer. The key point in that last statement is that a SALT is used. None will be in the end product as MDMA freebase is extracted from the reaction mixture using a nonpolar solvent which the mercuric salts are not soluble in. The MDMA base/nonpolar solvent is then usually washed with basic water, brine, and water a few times as well just to make sure none is left.

Yes I have heard that the synth process in some places has changed.. that just lead me to question if it is really MDMA that is being produced as there would be a molecular change in what is being made. OR if what they are now using is even WORSE for our systems..

I don't think you understand chemistry. Different reactions can be used to get to the same compound.

You don't want to use acetone as it can react with MDMA.

I know MDMA is really still in its infancy when it comes to long term testing and what it's side effect may end up being long term.

its been 23/24 years from when MDMA became very popularised and abused in the UK. How much longer would we need to analyse the long term side affects?

MDMA HCl definitely does not react with acetone in any noticeable quantity.

Yeah rhodium mentioned it a lot, you can find it mentioned in the hive archives numerous times. Look up how iminium ions are formed. Might only be present in trace amounts due to its stability but why not just use something that won't react at all.
