Do MAOI's downregulate receptors? I know they are not safe to take with mdma, but if taking them for a year or so then stop taking them will mdma be the same or not work the same (for example a lot of people taking SSRI's for years and then stop say mdma has no effect anymore)

I depends on the maoi. Some maoi's are reversible, meaning that they only temporarily disable MAO, perhaps for only a few hours. Other maoi's are irreversible, meaning that they completely disable the existing enzymes and you have to wait for your body to produce more enzymes. So even if one stops taking an MAOI, the enzyme could still be inhibited for weeks later, even though the drug left the body after the first day.
Okay. The MAOI i'm taking is Nardil, which is irreversible. It seemed to help but in my opinion the non existent sex drive that Nardil causes makes it useless to take.
I hear Cyproheptadine may help with low libido but it wasn't doing anything when I was on Nardil. I'd rather have a libido than none at all.
