One thing that concerns me as of late is mdma's effects on the liver? I have searched the internet somewhat but havent been able to find much on this topic. My questions are, is mdma proven to cause damage to the liver? And can it raise liver enzyme levels?

im also interested to see studies into this one (depending on many factors of course)
As i do not drink alcohol, and i only dose once

There are several case-studies showing liver transplants in MDMA users, but most cases of liver damage involve acute reactions to MDMA including major inflammation and fever.
It has been proposed that hepatoxicity is a feature of the bodies own immune response, rather than from MDMA directly.

I did find a single case report long ago of a patient that experienced liver disease over a period of months, rather than from an acute reaction. This is the only evidence I ever found for true hepatoxicity from MDMA use alone.

This was a subject of particular interest to me, because my episode of serotonin syndrome involved INCREDIBLE swelling just below the stomach. It was so severe that I feared the slightest pressure from the outside would BURST my liver.
The swelling was visible and the slightest touch would cause pain.

Over the period of several hours this swelling moved down through the intestines.
But there was no doubt, it began just below the stomach.

And the several days that followed this, I strongly suspected liver damage.
There was a horrid taste in my saliva that seemed to permeate my blood.
A truly disgusting feeling that I remembered from the few nights of binge drinking many years ago.
Its like somebody put filthy sand in my stomach and I could taste it ALL day.

My guess is that liver damage did occur, and the toxins that are stored in the liver are spilled into the GI and bloodstream. Very green around the gills.

I took milk thistle for two weeks!
But every time my stomach emptied, it felt like sand was SCRAPING my insides.
Very very bad.

I support the theory that MDMA induced hepatoxicity is a feature of the bodies own immune response.
Not only does it align with my personal experience and many case reports, but the 5-HT system is already known to be in control of our immune response. Most of your immune system AND serotonin lies in the intestines.

The top of my GI feels fine now, but it took 4-6 months before I could eat whatever I wanted.
And even now, my large intestine and parts of my small intestine act up.
I can literally feel the smooth muscle regaining its tone!
From top to bottom.

That is all.
