MDMA and HPPD - bad idea

Hey BL-

I'm a recovering HPPD'er, currently taking Lyrica (IF YOU HAVEN'T TRIED THIS DRUG FOR HPPD SYMPTOMS, GO DIRECTLY TO THE NEAREST PSYCHIATRIST AND GET SOME!). It's been nearly two years since I've done anything stronger than weed, which if anything makes my symptoms better. I also have bipolar II, for which I'm taking a few other anticonvulsants/mood stabilizers.

Anyway, skrillex is coming to webster hall tomorrow, and I'm really getting bored of getting drunk when everyone else is rolling. I want MDMA again.

I'm thinking start slow - 50mg (I'm 6'1", weight over 200lbs) with friends a few hours before the concert, 10mg bumps with a max dose of 100mg, NO ALCOHOL! How bad of an idea is this?

From my personal experience and from chilling in ED, MDMA typically doesn't cause HPPD. Clean MDMA is usually mildly psychedelic and not in the usual "LSD" kind of way. It's more of an emotional psychedelic if you will. :)

So I don't really think MDMA could cause too much issues with HPPD. But if you're really concreted about this, I would just skip the MDMA.

I don't know much about MDMA + Lyrica interactions, so someone else could pitch in about this or you could try and do a search.

I also don't see much point in doing 50mg of MDMA, I doubt you will feel much from such a dose even if you redose a little bit later. I would just drop the 80-100mg about an hour before the concert is supposed to start. There is no point in wasting the peak - just waiting for the show to begin.

One of the drugs I'm on is Abilify, which, as an antipsychotic, potently blocks the 5-ht2a receptor, which is of course the primary binding site for psychedelic activity. I would venture that I'll experience very little if any MDMA "glow," but I'm more looking for the emotional component from oxytocin. One concern is that abilify also blocks dopamine receptors, which might negate some of the emotional component, but it binds much more weakly to SERT compared to something like zoloft. Overall, I'd say it'd probably be a half assed high, and I don't know how comfortable I am with a higher dose considering my circumstances. I'd like to hear other's opinions on the matter though.

If you're also on an anti-psychotic, I would definitely avoid MDMA. Even if you do take it, I doubt you'll feel much. Just stick to booze and switch to MDMA once your gets you off Lyrica and Abilify.
