I came across some intersting dis?-information, which possibly someone with more chemistry knowledge could comment on. I am posting in Other Drugs and not in MDMA, because I know there are knowledgeable technical people here, and I don't read much of the MDMA forum.
From: http://www.petitiononline.com/AHP/petition.html
"Fenfluramine(Pondimin) which is made by American Home Products has caused
neurological injuries in the people who have used it for dieting. This
drug is similar to the drug MDMA (Ecstasy)."
The ariticle stresses the neurtoxicity of Fenfluramine. However, that statement implies that the chemical structure is similar. I guess I am nitpicking, but it seems that they are trying to add fear and type to their argument by associating Fenfluramine with an illegal drug.
To me the molecular structure of the two compounds is very dissimilar, but I am not a chemist. I only took 8 hours of organic and lab in college.
MDMA Molecule:

Fenfluramine:

The structures are not extremely similar, but I do not think it is a stretch to say that they are 'similar'.
Also, it is possible that similarity in mechanism of action was meant.

I had a 007 lab tested a few months ago and the results were-
"the 007 contained a small amount ~ 15/25 mg of fenfluoramine and 13 or so mg of 1-benzylethylamine. The pill also contained 65mg MDMA and 15mg MDA"
So it looks like someone has thought they could have similar effects?????? the pills got nothing but good ratings from everyone I know and had some really good reviews on pillreports (do a search in the UK/Ireland section and its the 007's where the logo is arranged with the 00 on one line and the 7 underneath)
:)

fairnymph- do you know if its more neurotoxic than MDMA? I found this-
fenfluramine, a drug with actions similar to those of MDMA with respect to effects on serotonergic neurons, does not appear to have toxic effects on these neurons in humans taking the drug twice daily for several years, nor is there evidence of functional or behavioral problems in fenfluramine users. However, no thorough studies have been conducted searching for such effects. Nevertheless, the absence of reported neurotoxic effects from fenfluramine suggests that such effects, if any exist, are likely to be subtle.
from- http://www.maps.org/news-letters/v09n3/09304dob.html
but here is a more indepth report saying it is very toxic- http://www.petitiononline.com/AHP/petition.html
From what I've read it seems that a big issue has been made about its neurotoxicity as people were taking high doses over long periods (every day for months!!) as a slimming aid and when they got extreme side effects it was banned. If you took E everyday for months then you would get extreme side effects too...........
I still have quite a few of the 007's I mentioned and am going out this weekend and was going to take them....... If I buy different pills today or tomorrow I wont have time to lab test them, so I wont know of any rogue contents. Do you think I'm in a less of the two evil's situation by taking the 007's?? I did read up on Fenfluramine before taking the 007's the first time and wasn't worried at all but your "avoid pills containing it like the plague!" has got me thinking... :) what do you think????????
