We want to thank everyone who attended this year's Starscape event. While we feel that overall the event was decent and the vibe was good, we feel the need to address the weather, and it's adverse effects.

The question we are getting asked a lot, is why weren't there tents over the event area, with the imminent rain in the forecast. At the risk of sounding like we're making excuses, we do have a perspective on this. First off, as anyone who attended should have been able to see, tenting the Live Stage area was physically impossible. The staging for the bands was far too big, and far too tall to fit under any tent. No tent is higher than 10' or so at the side, and even 20' to 30' in it is not more than 20' tall. The staging we used was over 30' tall, so there was just no way to tent it. Also, in live music, outdoor events are rarely covered. Certainly no stadium show has cover. So in that regard, we were physically unable to tent the area, and following industry precedents for outdoor events.

So the real issue is why the Buzz & DNB areas were not tented. Ultimately we bear responsibility for poor planning, and for that we apologize. In order to tent those areas, we needed to confirm with the tent company two Mondays before the event. At that point, the forecast was changing rapidly, and we were hesitant to make a decision, especially on such a costly item. By the time the weather forecast looked certain, it was too late to get the tents, they were rented to someone else.

We will make the promise now, that next year, the electronic areas will be tented, rain or shine, not only for weather protection, but also to create a better light show.

The other question to address is why the event stopped during the thunderstorm. This is simple, for everyone's safety, we could not have the generators running while the lighthing was going on. Also, with all of the staging was metal, continuing to have performers on the stages would have been extremely hazardous.

We hope this explanation serves to lighten up the attitudes of anyone who might have been angry about the weather effects on Starscape, and we commit ourselves to taking the necessary steps to insure that next year this is not an issue.

As for next year, we've already set the date: SATURDAY JUNE 9, 2007. The NINTH Starscape!

I'm glad they acknowledged/explained the tent situation. And honestly, by around 11:30, the rain wasn't a problem (at least for me). It might have made things a bit too hot under the tents at that point, I dunno.

Sooo, who was the genius that decided to put music at the end of the pier? THAT was poor planning in my book. It quickly became overcrowded, and the cops formed a barricde at the shoreline until enough people came off the pier and the weight was no longer a concern. Granted, just the presence of the cops was enough to lower the attendance at the pier, but c'mon....better planning please. I think it worked better when they had the art show and stuff out on the pier.

/me scratches June 9 2007 on the wall and begins his countdown.

i thought having music on the pier was great. the breeze coming off the water was awesome and having cops to regulate the amount of people allowed for enough room to dance. one of my fav parts of the party was dancing on the pier :)

They always had at least one tent set up, the last 2 years it was over the main area and the year before I think it was over rhe DnB area. I dunno why they didn't just stick to what they did in the past, whether rain was predicted or not.

I enjoyed the pier, while I was able to 8) , especially the breeze. I just thought it was too tight of a space for having a crowd to listen to music....especially when you consider the weight limits for such a structure :\ I thought it was really good when they had the art displays out there (which I miss) as it was a constantly moving crowd, not the "stand around and jump in unison so we can drop our asses in the bay" type of congregation.

sadly I never made it out onto the pier. I couldn't take the patience to wait for people to come off to let others on, but I understood about the capacity issue. ANd I heard it thruought the night how I was missing out being out there. But while waiting I just found myself caught up to the DnB going down so I stayed and rocked out there.
And as for the rain, I'm just happy it ended right as the night really started to jump off cause it changed my whole mood towards the party.
