I'm not anti-regulation. I agree about the Swiss.
I owned a gun when I lived in a rural area and know how to handle them. I don't own one in Chicago.
Something else is at play. I think several other posters were making sense when they pointed to societal break downs and am just trying to encourage a discussion about possible solutions.
Here's a quick thought:
The way that single mother's get paid right now encourages broken families. The father must not be present because if he is, payments stop. I suggest that this is actually counter productive to society at large and that this restriction should be removed so that fathers are encouraged to be around to raise his child(ren).
Interestingly the vast majority of serial killers in the US operated between 1970-2000 which is when gun violence also really started to take off. In fact the term 'serial killer' wasn't even invented until the 70s.If you go perusing the profiles of all U.S. serial killers of the 20th century, you'll find some mention of the psychological profile put together at Quantico and that they all grew up in environments where either the father was absent or the mother was the "dominant" parent.
But there's no point in trying to discuss the implications of this.
US only has 5% of the worlds population... yet has 25% of all imprisoned people in the whole world... and touts itself as the land of the free. Slavery was never abolished, it was only extended to include all the races and relabeled the prison system. Simultaneously many people in this country complain about too soft of prison sentences.
Bit unrelated... or is it?
This whole country is extremes. There is really nothing normal about this country.
They are now "leasing out" prisoners for labor. They work for 4 cents per hour. Literally slavery.
Maybe it's the SYSTEM ITSELF that is breaking people to the point of mass shootings.

American Slavery, Reinvented
The Thirteenth Amendment forbade slavery and involuntary servitude, “except as punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted.”www.theatlantic.com
I think the best thing to note here is the Pre-ban numbers! The guns existed and there were still low "mass killings". Also note that the very definition of "mass shooting" is Vague as a mf'er, with "certain people" having a reason to inflate the numbers after the Clinton ban was put down! A better solution exists than what is being proposed with so much prevalence. These "slippery slope" theories are all hypothetical. Kinda like the anti-gay marriage people who claimed it would lead to laws eventually being passed that would allow folks to marry animals.
Besides, it has been shown that Clinton's 1994 to 2004 assault rifle ban was effective to a certain degree. This graph shows from 2005-2017 and I think mass shootings have prolly increased exponentially since 2017.
