Mass Shooting and Gun Control Megathread

Prohibition of Alcohol and Drugs didn't work, why should we even try that route with guns is beyond me.
You're right.
But prohibition & regulation are two very different things.
See my post with the video of how the Swiss handle it. They love their guns--- but have a gun death rate that's close to zero.*

*and deaths by gunshot in Switzerland are nearly all suicide, not homicide.

I'm not anti-regulation. I agree about the Swiss.

I owned a gun when I lived in a rural area and know how to handle them. I don't own one in Chicago.

Something else is at play. I think several other posters were making sense when they pointed to societal break downs and am just trying to encourage a discussion about possible solutions.

Here's a quick thought:

The way that single mother's get paid right now encourages broken families. The father must not be present because if he is, payments stop. I suggest that this is actually counter productive to society at large and that this restriction should be removed so that fathers are encouraged to be around to raise his child(ren).

I mean this thread is a prime example of how everyone wants to do something about the gun issue, but pinpointing the problem isn’t easy making a solution really hard, I guess that’s why some people just say ban guns, but that isn’t the answer either

The downtown area has become a lot more hipsterfied with patio bars and stuff like that. Gun crime is probably still higher now than back then

im looking at that murder list again.....California isn't doing too bad either - just Oakland and San Bernadino on that list

im a little astonished by some of the places listed

North and South Carolina have 8 total on that list

rednecks

im gonna count how many redneck cities compared to how many yanks and non-confederate cities....hang on...

are we considering Ohio to be redneck? it's kinda on the fence isn't it

how about Indianapolis, Milwaukee, and Chicago?

rednecks or not rednecks?

out of the 65 most murderous cities, 39 of them are redneck cities, 18 are yanks and westerners, and 8 could go either way - but i think all of them should be considered redneck

I know we already talked about the existence of guns that could fire more rounds than a muzzle loading musket. But has anyone acknowledged that the writers of the Constitution were slave owners who didn't count blacks as people or that women had the right to vote? And yet the 2A is supposed to be taken literally?

I'm not sure if this aspect has been touched yet in this thread but what about the "well-regulated militia" part of 2A? Seems to me like the amendment may need some amending.

The South has always led the nation in murders per capita. We also have the highest rate of gun ownership.

I'm not saying there's a direct correlation, I'm just saying.

Saying the 2a wasn’t ment for modern rifles is kinda silly…cause at the time the government had the same access to fire arms as the people, kinda like today, but not really cause we can’t get full auto or grenade launchers or any of the fun stuff really, regulations, but let’s keep making more regulations , more and more until one day guns are gone, brilliant

Yeah, areas south of Columbus have a good amount of rednecks from my experience

A lot of rednecks migrated north looking for work and ended up settling in Ohio and starting families that never left

I definitely wouldn't consider Indianapolis, Milwaukee, and Chicago redneck. I'd bet street gangs are a bunch of the shootings in those places

Chicago is very progressive. Street gangs do indeed run around shooting at each other like it's a movie with no concern for bystanders on the south and west side. I'm not afraid of going out, but at my age I no longer fear dying. Besides a lot of the victims are shot "downrange" of an outbreak while they are just chilling at home.

Not good. I don't encourage friends to visit Chicago anymore.

Tucker Shitface Carlson:

- Starts off with framing it as a possible conspiracy
- Talks about the police response for 2 minutes
- Claims liberals are enacting laws to make mass shootings harder to stop, that liberals are ENCOURAGING them
- Then spends the last 10 minutes scaring the audience that they're going to take all their guns away, suggesting this is all a set up

Doesn't mention WHY this happened or HOW to prevent it a single fucking time.

this is pure brainwashing and entirely unproductive

I took a wrong turn trying to get to O'hare, I think south (?) of the airport. Pretty bad area, yeah.

I've lived in several large cities, especially in California and it seems they all have areas like that.

You just don't really feel that safe, even while driving through with your car doors locked.

That's actually not bad there. Try 63rd and Cottage Grove or Roosevelt Rd anywhere west of Kedzie.

These are areas people get shot every day.

I used to work near 63rd and Cottage in a junk yard. It was a very"interesting" era of my life.
