Mass Shooting and Gun Control Megathread

neither will any of the laws Dems are on TV talking about wanting to pass...

i don't believe i even mentioned that...

how about we talk about the real problem, which is why are young men so angry, immature and hopeless? Oh I forgot, the media don't give a shit about that stuff.

i've been watching various media all day. there's been a ton of discussion about those kind of mental health issues.

if you're advocating for increased funding for mental health services, i totally agree.

No one is talking about seizing anything from average citizens.

of course. but "they're coming for your guns" has been effective fear-mongering for decades.

I really don’t understand why the legal age for being an adult isn’t 21 in the U.S. we’d save a lot of lives just raising the driving age to 18 let alone 21. If they’re gonna prohibit 18 year olds from most adult activities why not just make it official, teenagers aren’t and never were adults.

it's as if the outpouring of thoughts and prayers that follows these incidents is having no effect...

So now it's the media's fault for reporting the news?
No. The media sometimes influences copycats through media sensationalism by aggressively focusing on reporting things like the race and political beliefs of the shooter when it fits the narrative they wish to uphold, and they don't report those things when it doesn't fit the preconceived narrative

Don't all schools have at least 1 armed resource officer of am I thinking or something else?

Maybe we should just train teachers to use guns and provide them... And pay them more at the same time.

But at the same time if they didn't, it might make certain groups angry?

Say there was a spree of white supremacists killing black people and it was never mentioned and just reported as generic killings.

Dunno just some half thought. I'm sleepy.

Goodnight. RIP those kids man :(

Yeah, spree killing is real. It's way too prevalent, I mean why the fuck is this happening? Shit is awful. Makes me want to get a gun honestly.

I dunno @mal3volent, you already said you're off the Bernie train. Because it's the progressives who are the only ones who actually seem interested in the systemic change necessary to address the deep rooted issues of why "young men are so angry, immature, and hopeless."

Who are you voting for that wants to raise the minimum wage to a living wage? provide universal healthcare, which would cover mental health, and paid family leave? pass a Green New Deal since the environment is in the shitter? break up the monopolies, which are the reason for the baby formula shortage? My point is that there are a lot of options out there to improve quality of life for a lot of folks but it's prolly easier to burn it all down and start over than continue relying on the status quo to get any of that done.

I know right? That one phrase has put more guns on the street than any other mantra. That's why I still hold the NRA responsible for a lot of these senseless murders, whether indirectly or outright directly.

Come on down the Texas. They hand em out free at the state lines.

EDIT: Joking aside, it is perfectly within your rights unless your state laws say otherwise. Either way, gun ownership is a commitment and requires responsibility. Anyone can buy a strap and walk around like Jesse James. But a responsible person puts in the hours at the range honing their marksmanship and gaining the muscle memory to make sure they can not only hit their target but also not hit unintended targets, like innocent bystanders. Prolly better to get formal instructions from a professional trainer than go it alone.

That's not a valid reason to refrain from writing laws and/or enforcing them. Same with any law. "If the 12 year old kid is gonna drink a bottle of Jack anyways, they will find a way to do it. So let's not pass a law to restrict underage drinking." C'mon man, we gotta have some common sense and rattling off Faux News talking points ain't doing anything to help.
Always love to hear “Republican talking point”, it says sooo much. Lol

While resource officers are common in a lot of urban school districts, the rural ones prolly don't even have the funding. Small towns don't have much shit going on, which unfortunately this small town got caught with their pants down.

I don't think arming teachers will do anything but make problems worse. They are already overworked and putting that kind of responsibility on their shoulders seems like a recipe for disaster. If a school district can afford to raise the pay and properly train teachers on safe usage and marksmanship, they might as well just hire that resource officer.

A lot of urban schools lock their doors during the day and you have to buzz in on camera to gain entry. Once again, it's prolly more of a funding issue than anything.

Don’t get me wrong, I am for some tighter regulations on guns, but CA trying to make all gun owners pay insurance on every gun they own because of gun victims suing gun manufacturers that I guess somehow were responsible for pulling that trigger, WTF? And I still stand by my comment concerning “they will get them if they want”. It’s easier and cheaper to get ahold of a gun than baby formula. Dont go nuts that last sentence was a joke. Political discussions need a bit of humor, right. Although it’s a lot more civil here than most political forums I’ve ran across. Peace everybody.

You have no idea at all about what type of person I am and actually you show a lot of ignorance in that pos. Good night you’re through.
Aww, wassamatta, you don't like my "left wing talking points?"

As for the "get them if they want" comment. Who but "right wingers" say things like that, as if nothing can be done to stop or at least curtail mass shootings? Not calling you a right winger but the way you are talking is, well, quack quack.

You may be through but you don't get to decide when I'm through.

Thanks for the laughs. You’re a cookie cut obviously.

One last thing (promise), I’m very, very sorry that I told you you were through. My mistake, shouldnt have said. I certainly did not mean to get you upset. Maybe smoke a little, if you do.

If I am not mistaken, most of these mass shootings are acted out with "legal" (registered) firearms.
Could be wrong just what I seem to remember from past reports.
What can be done about it? Nothing probably... anyone with a printer can create a papergun. Well, not paper but printed anyway.
Bloodshed seems to be the answer and its pushed relentlessly imo.
It's so sad if they're not printing weapons their stabbing others with kitchen knives...China is a sad example of that. It doesn't matter what laws exist. We will continue to kill eachother.

No worries, I wasn't upset. I'm not scheduled for another toke until next week but I will try to remember this convo and smoke one for you :reggae:
