Hey everyone! Swim tested their molly with the Marquis testing kit. The reaction was dark purple to black in 5 seconds, but it did release smoke when tested. Swim read that dxm is the only substance to release smoke upon reaction. Would mda or mdma release smoke as well? swim is new to testing and would love some specific feedback. The quick change from purple to black seems great and there was no amount of grey at any time. But the smoke bothers swim from what they have been reading. Thanks!

Hey Nhilic, welcome to bluelight. First of all, we don't use SWIM here, it's not allowed, makes your text hard to read and it doesn't protect you in any way in reality.

Yes, MDMA and MDA both release smoke with marquis. Any substance that has a counter-ion bound to it gives off smoke (HCl, HBr, NaH,...). MDMA is actually MDMA.HCl and it's the HCl part that gives off the smoke. Don't worry, smoke is actually a good sign, coupled with a purple colour going into black it confirms that there is MDxx in your sample or DXM or anything else that gives an MDMA-like colour on marquis and is bound to a counter-ion, so it limits the number of possibilities. Ideally you would be testing with a full testkit (marquis, mandelin, mecke, simons) which will help to further eliminate the possibility of adulterants and will tell you what exactly is in your sample (not only that it's likely MDxx, but more precisely that it's MDMA or MDA or MDEA or ...)
