I tested some capsuls from a standup guy who claims they are the bombdest ... 100% pure. The Mecke and Simons test looked okay. Then I went to the Marquis and it went bright red to violet. The test says this "MAY" indicate opiates. Anyone have any insight?

Id say youve got opiates mate!!
Why dont you check pillreports and see what other test results have said.
Your tester may also have expired. They only last about 3 months.

Doubt there would be a bright red reaction from a test kit that was too old. Usually just gives no reaction in my experience.
Whatever it is, it is definitely not an mdma-like substance, so whatever it is, it's not "ecstacy".

hmm I've got a Marquis goin' strong at 18 months. Kits more than a few months old should always be "calibrated" against drugs or household items listed on the NIJ color chart before using to test pills. In my experience as well, Marquis will not give a red color as a result of age - other drugs are definitely indicated. I'd say you mistook an opiate reaction with Mecke for a MDxA reaction, but the Simon's confuses me.
The Marquis reaction, IMO, is the most important. I suggest (are you in the US?) you send one of these in the the pilltesting program at ecstasydata.

Thanks for the responses - you guys rock. Its a good thing we have back ups for the big shindig tonight. Peace.

My experience with marquis is that as it ages (especially if you have not been keeping in the fridge) is that it loses some of its ability to get that nice deep sapphire/royal purple with an MD reaction and goes a funny reddy purple instead.
Bright red however is definanlty not on.
I think you are doing the right thing by seeking a backup.

Asprin turns bright red, so you might have MDMA and asprin.. BTW, if you wanna make sure your test is still good, use asprin.. If its bad itll turn black instead of red.
