Marijuana causing psychosis?

so lazily dazing about your day to day life baked as fuck and doing the same shit you enjoy all the time is psychosis?

wow im psychotic! thanks for informing me :/

cannabis doesnt cause psychosis mate. use your head. it brings shit to the surface in certain individuals, yes, im not disputing this, but most of the time they had underlying symptoms or family history.
what im disputing is that you state cannabis causes psychosis.

the FACT is - the figure of people whove "gone loopy with weed" is less that 2% of the whole population. (UK population)

dont state shit that isnt true as if its a fact on its own. there are countless other factors you failed to mention.

i do however agree that when mixed with other drugs, ganja accentuates any drug, and this can be bad depending on the situation.

^ yes listen to sega420 (Aka - fuckhead , spammer/got nothing else to do with his time)

:P

joking

I'm one of the handful of people that have experienced weed psychosis. Nasty stuff. If youre having psychotic symptoms from cannabis, quit for a few months, than try it again. If symptoms persist, don't use again for a long time, 1+ years.

Although I do not agree that weed causes psychosis. I do believe the negative side effects weed can have are very understated.

yes, understated is an understatement!

if governments would get off their high horse and provide the citizenry with accurate, factual, truthful information, and properly researched the substances that their population is using everyday, the world would be a far better place.

however this is not the case unfortunately, as its more convenient to try and pull the wool over peoples eyes than to spend money on harm reduction and research.

look at all the research thats been done on cocaine, alcohol, etc, and compare to the amount of research done on cannabis. its a shame.
such potential good & bad, just sitting there, waiting to be found out.

I wasn't joking at all, and I would have made sure I didn't go to jail. Thank you very much I didn't know that about DPH, will get some to have on hand later on.

You're welcome. You would be one of the first people to actually take my advice regarding DPH :\ I suggest taking a small dose next time you are mildly annoyed, to see how you react to it.

I first got the idea of using DPH as an antipsychotic after realizing that it shares some of the same properties as hydroxyzine, a chemical I was given as an "as needed" first defense against psychosis. Both are H1 receptor antagonists.

As for the second part, I have/am trying to take that on as much as possible.

Yeah, letting things go can be really difficult at first, but will become much easier over time. Getting older also helps, since the your hormones won't be raging quite so badly.

Well around about 2 months ago I quit daily smoking (1 year) and had a massive break, I smoked again for the first time a few weeks ago on a meth come down and it seemed to cause psychosis. I thought every one around me was talking about me and I couldn't do anything but sit there and stare.

I smoked again last night and this time with no come down and I seem to have gotten it again, I thought the people around me were talking about me, even that the TV was trying to give me messages about my life.

I did feel like marijuana was starting to make me feel "loopy" towards the end of my daily smoking, however I rarely did it around other people. Just experienced a very altered internal dialogue that I didn't get from smoking before.

Has any one else experienced this before? Is it a sign of the beginning of a mental illness or can I just not smoke pot any more?

Wow please do not blame weed for ur physicosis problem. Weed does not cause any mental illnesses. You and all of us know very well that Meth is what causes physcosis

Marijuana definitely helps with my bipolar, gets rid of mania and depression. Basically makes my mood neutral. (After being stoned) This typically wears off about 3 days or so after.

You might want to try finding weed with a high CBD to THC ratio.

This is not true.

Jake, unless you have a history of mental problems, wheather yourself or anyone in your family then it's very unlikely you have triggered any sort of mental illness IMO

I dont know much about meth so I cant comment on it's effects.

Over the past 2 years ive been smoking everyday, a lot of the time I was smoking by myself. Once I started smoking with mate's whatever the situation I always get anxiety and paranoid about the way I act and speak and am worried about what they think etc.

Could it be possible that after your meth episode, that each time you smoked after that it got you anxious about experiencing that same 'mind fuck'? Kinda like a placebo effect, and once you were high your thought's were all directed to the meth situation? I dunno, im no psychiatrist..

Your best bet IMO would be to stop smoking again, and try it later on and see if you can handle it.

Yeah I've had amphetamine psychosis a few times in my life and I think I have gained one of those things were you're mind relates it back to that experience.

I have obtained some seroquel just in case for the future and some DPH.

I have a very distant schizophrenic family member, however I have spoken to the doctor and he does not believe that to be of an issue with my smoking.

Also, I believe being paranoid about being crazy could actually drive you crazy.

This is the fourth time I have stated as it says in that post you quoted, that I smoked weed without meth involved with the same results.

What causes your inability to read?

You sound like you're in the early stages of schizophrenia. STOP ALL DRUG USE IMMEDIATELY AND GET TO A PSYCHOLOGIST ASAP! I'm not exaggerating here. I've been on the wrong side of the psych ward door, and I've seen what happens to people like you that didn't quit...

It may be that this is just a temporary thing and you'll be able to smoke again someday, but with this sort of thing you need to err on the side of caution. What you are describing is very serious and quite severe. If you told these things to an officer of the law, you would be put on psychiatric lockdown for the minimum length of time as required by your jurisdiction.

Maybe I wasn't clear enough. I only use meth occasionally. And I had only had one hit, albeit a large hit.

I have tried smoking weed without any other substances involved with the same results. Intense anxiety, with schizophrenic/psychosis like symptoms resulting.

Rant and Rave gives some excellent advice.

Jake if smoking herb did that to me I wouldn't smoke it at all or use any drugs.

Marijuana and THC may not cause psychosis or schizophrenia but they do bring it out in some people who have it or in people who have a genetic history of it too.

There is no way to tell because the people who get schizophrenia while smoking marijuana, could have ended up getting it regardless.

Well I basically agree, but schizophrenia isn't something you "get" like cancer or diabetes, its not a biochemical pathology.

People who end up being labeled as schizophrenic often have multitudes of causative factors influencing their deviation from ordinary cognition.

In most non-catatonic occurrences schizophrenics rarely display cognitive deficits aside from specific persistent delusions and perceptual abnormalities-- all credible evidence points to a psychological origin rather than a biochemical origin. Its not a disease you can "get" as such, but a deeply-ingrained psychological malfunction that manifests over time.

STOP ALL DRUG USE IMMEDIATELY AND GET TO A PSYCHOLOGIST ASAP!

I definitely agree. A good clinically-trained psychologist will be immeasurably helpful. Make sure to find one who is a sincere individual who will care about your well-being as a person

As a word of warning, stay FAR AWAY from any type of psychiatric intervention unless you are out of control and in danger of causing people harm.

(A common misconception is that psychiatry and psychology are somehow related. They are not, psychiatry is biochemical and psychology is....well, psychological. Over 92% of psychiatrists don't receive any type of psychological training, stay far away from those charlatans unless you absolutely require coercive forceful methods of control in order to not harm others).

No, that's ridiculous. Weed use is common in the population of people who end up going / being taken to a psychiatrist and being subsequently diagnosed as schizophrenic, and nothing more.

I'll try find the study but the one I read found a correlation between schizophrenia and people who had begun smoking at a very early age. The people who started smoking at approx 18y and older didn't tend to develop schizophrenia later down the line (similar rate to the gen pop) but those who had been smoking heavily at a young age were more likely. I shouldn't have used the word "cause", maybe exacerbate would have been a better term. Nevertheless it could still be a mix up of cause and effect - maybe schizophrenics are more likely to start smoking young, who knows?

Reading this thread was scary. I have experienced the same exact thing that Jakeperson described:
There have been times when people have been talking to me and I thought they were saying something completely different to what they actually were. Hard to explain
I eventually lost my friends over some shit relating to what I have come to see as psychosis. And I didn't just realize this tonight--I had stumbled upon some reading awhile back about pot-induced psychosis, but I didn't wanna hear it... *Sigh*
