Hi everyone, I’m posting because I’m dealing with what appears to be MAOI-induced dysautonomia
combined with baclofen withdrawal, and I’m hoping to hear from anyone who has experienced
something similar.
Background:
I’ve been dealing with significant autonomic nervous system instability for some time. Baclofen was
being used to help manage sympathetic overactivity, but my body seems to have developed a
dependence on it. After a recent dose reduction/taper, I began experiencing what feel like withdrawal
symptoms on top of the underlying dysautonomia.
Medication context:
• Baclofen — recently tapered/reduced
• My doctor has prescribed clonazepam to help stabilize the CNS while my nervous system settles
• I’m currently waiting for the clonazepam prescription to be filled
Symptoms I’m experiencing:
• severe akathisia / inner agitation
• adrenaline surges / sympathetic overactivation
• difficulty sleeping or fear of sleeping due to breathing instability
• hyperventilation episodes
• brain fog and cognitive issues
• electric shock–like neurological jolts
• extreme sensitivity to medications and stimuli
It honestly feels like my autonomic nervous system has temporarily lost its ability to maintain
homeostasis.
I am working with a physician and trying to approach this responsibly, but the symptoms are extremely
intense and frightening.
Questions:
1 Has anyone experienced baclofen withdrawal with severe CNS hyperexcitability like this?
2 Has anyone dealt with MAOI-related autonomic dysfunction?
3 Did benzodiazepines temporarily help stabilize things during the acute phase?
4 Any harm-reduction advice while the nervous system settles down?
Any experiences or timelines would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for reading.
