Manchester Events

Small cans of Heineken are £4 in Sankeys, bottles of water £3. And weirdly everyone still drinks loads there.. :?

yea as above have said avoid 5th if you can, typical indie shyt, full of students.
Some clubs I recommend:

Missoula
Factory (great if you like dance music, they recently changed the floors a bit and is much more catered to dance music, with a bit of madchester thrown in)
Ritz
Sound Control
Venus (Rong host trance nights here sometimes and its a smaller venue so which I prefer over the big venues such as sankeys/whp)

Manchester does have a good scene at the moment, not as good as it once was, but certainly not bad. Just need to know where to look

Hmm, good to know about Venus and Factory.. Not been to Rong yet but am fond of Majefa and Plasma Future, also good trance nights.

Bowlers is also worth a mention, as it's often quite an experience.. sometimes has house nights, but more often old school/hardcore ones.

The best advice I can give to a fellow Manc: avoid 5th Avenue like a Septicaemic Plague.

haha i learned my lesson the hard way! went there and ordered a double gin and tonic which tasted like water. Asked why it was like that and was told by the barman "what dyou expect, its fifth ave" !

I liked factory but its quite samey, got bored after a few nights there. I've heard some good stuff about venus and sound control, will probably give them a go

Most of the good ones have been said, Joshua Brooks (good small venue), Sound Control, Gorilla, Sankeys

Venus polarises my opinion a bit, they are beyond picky on the door, about 10 different questions, often if they dont like the look of you its just a straight "no", same with Sankeys though they have become a bit more lenient recently.

I know sankeys did an event down in London a few months ago, they got absolutely berated (by some) on facebook after the venue, they took some of their "door pickers" down with them to london and you can imagine how that went. basically if you look rough or like you might cause trouble you get sent packing, even if you have bought a ticket. I have seen groups of about 15+ who have come from afar etc with tickets all to get turned away a the door for wearing smart shoes.

Avicii White if your into a posh "clubbing experience" rammed with the VIP cunto type and the decor to match, often has a few. Its mostly house music, cant fault them just seems they are trying to push for the "VIP experience" bleh went once and probaly never again.

Trying to think of a few not mentioned

The Roadhouse in the northern quarter sometimes has some good events with a good crowd

(actually fucking loads when you think about it plus all the ones mentioned, the majefa trance nights are quality, albert hall another new venue mentioned)

Selective Hearing often have some good events on a different places, like, been to a good bring your own booze types and at other places... Also Soup Kitchen ! another small venue with some good events.. usually small venue is cheap and brings a good crowd, depends what your after though.

I actaully think theres a thread somewhere similar to this hidden in the depths with exactly the same posters and responses but hey ho

I actually saw some older looking men (30+) in tight pants and lumberjack shirts getting turned down from 5th ave poor men, looked heart broken, probably for the best anyway. I am sure 42s would have taken them in with open arms.

That was probably me and my friend Rodger.

The door policies are weird, i was recently playing pool in one establishment, absent mindedly left my hat behind in the place, realised later on in the night, went back slightly bad tempered /anxious and they suddenly werent going to let me in when they had done just a few hours before, suddenly i couldnt go in with the type of footwear i had. Once i explained the hat situation they finally let me in, i guess my mate looks respectable, which might have helped, then the bouncer inside the place challenged me, as i must have looked like i was "on a mission" rather than a punter there to have a drink or a game of pool.

Another club i went to wasnt going to let my mate in because he didnt have a buttoned shirt. The bouncer was being a complete cunt. We had travelled all the way from Bristol to Birmingham for an event that finished at 7am. After the bouncer gave me the "dont argue with ME" shit i had to find the rest of our group inside, i think by sheer good luck there was a spare buttoned shirt in the boot of the car.

Strange bouncers have strange policies, just make it up as they go along I think. Sankeys bouncers dont even say no, they go "just this way please lads", so you think oh we are in then they shuffle open the gate, "this way" aaaaaand im outside. oh.

Only bouncers to ever call police when they found me with an empty baggie was in 5th when I was about 16, though honestly If I had to deal with pissed up cunts for my whole shift, I would undoubtedly turn into a cunt after a week.

Bouncers in Sankeys don't even say "please" to me.. they just bark orders. This is why I only venture there once a year. Meh.
