McCracken County, KY, United States (AHN) - A Kentucky man who had been drinking whiskey and smoking marijuana left his 5-week-old son in the oven overnight, according to police reports.

The oven was not turned on and the door was left slightly open.

According to the McCracken County Sheriff's Department, Larry Long, 33, went home after smoking marijuana at the restaurant where he is a cook and drank a bottle of whiskey with the baby's mother, Brandy Hatton.

Hatton went to bed after a few shots while Long stayed up and drank the rest, reports stated.

Hatton woke up early the next morning when she heard her baby's cries coming from the oven.

Emergency crews took the baby who had been left in the oven for several hours to a nearby hospital, where medical staff declared the infant unharmed.

Long reported himself to a psychiatric facility, which in turn contacted authorities, according to reports.

Long reportedly said he believed his marijuana was laced with hallucinogens, causing his strange behavior.

Long was arrested and charged with first degree wanton endangerment. He is being held on $10,000 bond.

Authorities have removed the baby from its mother's care and awarded emergency custody to members of her family.

I wonder if the baby should have been removed from the mother's care?
She drank only a few shots of whiskey, then went to bed, trusting the baby to the father.
And if his weed was truly laced with something, he might not deserve the blame either, at least not to the extent of being thrown in jail.
What a sad story, a horrible situation for all involved.

Either that or he was just using "laced" weed as a scapegoat for the fact that he was absolutely shitfaced from the whiskey he'd been caning all fucking night...

lulz potheads cant handle psychedelics. why would you put a baby in the oven to begin with?

The marijuana could have triggered a deeper issue. The man is in a psychiatric hospital trying to get help and the baby was unharmed. Hopefully, if there is a mental health issue at play, he will be able to get the help that he needs, learn to stay off of drugs, and the baby will not be put into similar potentially dangerous situations in the future. Of course, by staying off of drugs I also mean staying away from alcohol. If he has a mental health issue those things do not mix very well and always spell trouble.

Oh relax, this is common in winters. It's more of a backwoods mentality thing than a drug thing. In fact, it's not a drug thing at all. Plenty of perfectly sober people do this the world round. It was done to me a bunch of times.

Google KEEP BABY WARM OVEN

The oven was not turned on and the door was left slightly open.

Long reportedly said he believed his marijuana was laced with hallucinogens, causing his strange behavior.

He's crediting the cannabis and the laced "hallucinogens," as the only thing that prevented his murdering the baby and to the door being left open for adequate airflow.

What the fuckery shit fuck?!?!?!?! 8o What a total, utter, idiotic mentalist!
Thank fuck that he didn't turn the damn thing on and kept the door open...
Doesn't make this any less messed up though :\

He must have had the munchies for a California cheeseburger

Baby Back ribs?

Hahaha!! I lol'd so hard!

But this man truly is a douche. Probably the alcohol. Alcohol makes you do stupid shit. Although weed on top would make him even more I intoxicated. Or maybe the baby crawled in to signify it was hungry.

This guy is the reason why anti-pot campaigners wanna make pot illegal and ignore the fact that 99% of pot smoking users use it in a responsible manner. So if he was not smoking marijuana and taking prescription pills instead that would lead to his strange behavior, would big pharma be demonized in the anti drug war? I don't think so.

And it's so pathetic of him to blame the pot on his strange behavior, even if he thinks baking his baby and hopefully some hash brownies might come out of that results makes perfect sense to him.

In all rationality, i think it was the alcohol that lead to his behavior. He was probably so intoxicated that it clouded his sense of judgement and jsut wants to blame the marijuana and use it as a scapegoat. *Heathens!!!*

the fact that 99% of pot smoking users use it in a responsible manner.

I know you were using hyperbole, but there is certainly a statistically significant portion of cannabis users who misuse the plant. However I definitely agree with your basic sentiment: rarely does that misuse culminate in violence or serious negligence.

Whereas with alcohol, I'm sure an alarmingly large portion of drinkers have seen their alcohol use culminate in violence/negligence at some point.

That's exactly why I don't drink alcohol anymore-- I got sick of ending up in jail, physically hurt, or having everyone I love angry at me for something I can't even recall doing.
