SANTA ROSA BEACH — A 26-year-old man from McDonough, Ga., has been charged with hitting a woman with a gun and forcing a seven-year-old boy to smoke marijuana at gunpoint, according to an arrest report from the Walton County Sheriff’s Office.

Justin Blake Mitchell hit the woman in the head with a gun, pointed it at her, threatened to kill her and then robbed her of cash and other personal property, the report said.

Then Mitchell pointed the gun at the seven-year-old boy and threatened to shoot him if he didn’t smoke marijuana, according to the report.

He also stole another man’s debit card at gunpoint and robbed another woman of her personal property, the report said.

The incident took place on July 12 at a home on Santana Drive. Mitchell was arrested then, but further investigation led to additional charges, according to the report.

Mitchell has been charged with aggravated battery using a deadly weapon, three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, child abuse, grand theft of a firearm, possession of a controlled substance and possession of marijuana, two counts of felony larceny and two counts of misdemeanor larceny.

He is being held in the Walton County Jail with no bond.

This is surreal to the point of almost mistaking it for an Onion article.

"Hey you, kid! Smoke this weed! Do it or I'll shoot you!"

Yeah I know this is a real, extremely serious incident but there's something infinitely hilarious about the assailant making a little kid smoke pot to finish it off, almost like it was a dream he always wanted to fulfill or thought "why not, I've come this far".

later on in life, when he's in rehab, a counselor will tell him what he tells everyone: "Nobody put a gun to your head and made you take that first drug."

Oh yeah motherfucker?

hahahah.

That's fucked up. Life!

Perhaps he thought it'd fuck up the kids memory of the event, make him a poor witness? I dunno... Would have made more sense to feed them benzos..

You think you'd still have PTSD if you were seriously assaulted if you were given an amnesic dose of a benzo? Perhaps it would block the formation of the memory, break the association with it.

^I could see that making the kid unable to recall the events, especially given the dramatic effect of marijuana on novice users. In a psychology class I took we learned that many people who were involved in tragic accidents after which they immediately lost consciousness didn't remember the incident, leading to the theory that a memories take time to form, or become imprinted. I don't know about PTSD though, as I was under the impression that it tends to be a more emotional change which is pretty well imprinted after the fact.

i remember reading something about how the beta blocker propanolol can prevent bad memories from being imprinted. anyone else hear of this?
