An Irwin man's call to the WXDX morning radio show inadvertently tipped police officers about a bag of marijuana in his vehicle, police said.
Michael Hegland was cited on suspicion of possession of a small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia Friday, according to Channel 11’s news exchange partners at TribLIVE.
The citations came about after the 25-year-old made a call to 105.9's "The X" morning show and joked about being high. Hegland called shortly after 9 a.m. Friday to talk about a run-in he had with Irwin police on Wednesday.
Hegland told morning show host Bob McLaughlin he was pulled over for a brake light violation and was cited for not changing the address on his driver's license. Hegland said the officer who pulled him over told him if he updated his license within two days the citation would be dropped.

Irwin Police Chief Joseph Pocsatko received a call from a colleague about 9:30 a.m. asking if he had been listening to the show, as he often does.
The colleague explained the radio interview. Pocsatko then reviewed the report from the brake-light incident before he was called to the station to speak with Hegland.
Pocsatko said Hegland "reeked of marijuana."
"I then asked him if he had just called a radio station and made light of coming to speak with a police officer concerning a violation, as he was currently high," Pocsatko wrote in a police report.
Pocsatko asked Hegland to walk him to his 1989 Ford Tempo to verify that the brake lights worked when he noticed "a distinct smell" of marijuana emanating from the car.
"I then asked him if he was in possession of any marijuana. ... Hegland hesitated and stated, 'All I wanted to do was come and talk about this citation,' I then interjected, 'After you called a radio station and publicly made the comment you were coming to speak to the police while you were high,'" Pocsatko wrote.
Hegland responded, saying, "I always call them guys and jack them around about being high," police said.
Pocsatko asked Hegland again if he had any marijuana. Hegland removed from the Tempo a Camel cigarette box, which contained a plastic bag with suspected marijuana, along with a glass pipe, the police report said.
Hegland was then cited on charges of possession of a small amount of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia, but was released after Pocsatko determined he was not really under the influence.
