Making oil from mid grade hash?

I want to carry out an extraction on some mid grade un-adulterated hash from Morocco. I say mid grade because its not bubble hash or isolator or anything, just nice quality solid. Anyway my point is that I want to know what would be better to do, Butane extraction or isopropyl extraction. and what sort of yield would i be looking at from doing that, considering the starting products and appropriate extraction method.

I just turn my hash into oil in a few easy steps. I don't bother freezing it or putting it in the oven or whatever else I see on recipes.

1 - crumble the hash into a jar
2 - add iso until the hash is covered
3 - shake for 30-60 seconds
4 - run it through a coffee filter
5 - let the iso dry out

For me, the yield usually varies depending on the amount of time I've let the hash sit in the solvent and the quality of the hash.
 
It's really difficult to predict. The oil is basically what holds the plant matter together. The higher the quality, the more oil you get.

If I have good hash I usually get a 15x15 cm square about 1/4 of an inch thick of oil. That's from a 200 milligram slab of hash. If you do the process right, which isn't really difficult at all, you should get pretty much everything. So by weight I'd guess it'd be about 120 milligrams.

If you wanna be absolutely certain you get everything shake the hash for the full 60 seconds. You'll get a little bit of plant matter as well but you'll guarantee that you have all the oil.

I suggest you try doing a small piece first. Or several small pieces and experiment until you find the right method. That's what I did until I found the perfect way to do it with the hash I have.

It would be worth taking a look at this recipe. He's talking about making oil from buds but it's essentially the exact same thing.
 
I have a theory that iso, butane, and other solvents do not extract the full range of chemicals/terpines/flavinoids that are present in hash/flowers. With that being said, I would recommend some acetone. It is a very powerful solvent and it evaporates off cleanly.
 
Okay I am new here and I am not understanding at all why there is iso, butane, and acetone involved in making hash oil....

Hash oil is made with a solvent, and iso, butane and acetone are all solvents.
 
The idea is that oils dissolve in the said solvents. If you can dissolve the oil using any of the mentioned solvents, and separate it from the plant matter using a filter, you'll be left with the oil which serves as a carrier for THC.
 
So you mean that your getting 120mg of oil from 200mg of hash? thats a really high yield isn't it?
 
Again, it really depends on the quality of the hash and the amount of time you let it sit in the solvent. There's absolutely no way to give an accurate response to that question. Sometimes I've gotten fuck all, other times I've barely lost anything.

Acetone is certainly the best bet for a broad spectrum solvent. there's nothing to stop you using a mixture of solvents either if you are going for maximum extraction.
However the point of extraction is to make something purer and stronger not just an oily form of the original substance
 
Well, you can also argue that you're not making the THC itself more potent. You're simply separating the THC from the plant matter. If you have weed/hash that's of low quality, turning it into oil doesn't make it any more potent.

The perks of this are:
-easier to use
-not as harsh on the lungs and throat
-and requires small amounts to achieve the same efficacy as previously used amount of hash/weed.
 
^ obviously you aren't making the starter material more potent, dunno how you got that inference.

oils a pain to smoke , IMO you're better off with hash than a weak oil. my point was if you're going through the trouble of extracting from hash, you want to end up with a purer stronger smokable product rather than just oily hash.

You can always completely dry out the oil, whip it AFTER THE PURGE, and then it will be a crumbly clay material.
