60 people being treated after Hardwell in Belfast for 'drugs and alcohol'. Been a few dodgy pills floating round the North in the last year, wonder if this is more of the same. Hope there are no deaths anyway

The ambulance service has declared a 'major incident' at Belfast's Odyssey Arena with a large number of casualties suffering from the ill-effects of alcohol and drugs.

It's understood crews are dealing with a large number of casualties at the Belfast venue.

According to a spokesman for the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service, it is now being treated as a 'major incident'.

There are reports as many as teenagers are treated, according to Sky News.

It's not yet clear if any of those affected are in a serious condition.

It's believed around five were taken to hospital for treatment.

Extra staff are also being brought in to nearby Belfast hospitals, including the Ulster and Royal Victoria, to deal with the high numbers of casualties.

DJ and producer Hardwell was performing at the arena this evening.

Last month dozens of fans camped overnight or queued for hours on a Belfast street yesterday in pouring rain for a ticket to his show at the Odyssey Arena in February.

Hardwell, aka Robbert van de Corput (25), was named the world's number one DJ in the 2013 DJ Mag Top 100 DJs Poll.

His hits include Spaceman, Three Triangles (Losing My Religion) and Apollo

Sounds nasty, must be a lot of folk needing help if extra staff are being called in to help at the hospital.

Up to 60 young people have been treated by paramedics after becoming ill outside a concert venue in Belfast.

A doctor and several ambulances are at the scene of the Odyssey Arena.

Seven people were taken to hospitals across Belfast to be treated for the effects of drugs and alcohol. No-one was seriously injured.

A Northern Ireland Ambulance Service spokesman said many of those were already intoxicated when they arrived at the venue.

John McPoland said: "We believe the majority arrived suffering from too much alcohol.

"We declared a major incident because of the number of resources we had to deploy to the scene."

A spokesman for the Odyssey Arena, Adrian Doyle, said: "It is our understanding that a number of patrons arriving to attend a concert by Dutch DJ act Hardwell have required medical attention, having already been intoxicated on their arrival at the complex.

"These patrons were not granted entry to the Odyssey Arena, and were treated by the Ambulance Service outside."

Broken indeed, Wcote (which name, BTW, always makes me think of Wilnecote in Staffordshire). In my day, we could handle our drink and drugs. None of this projectile vomiting all over the place. And up with the lark the following morning, ready for whatever the day had to throw at us. These kids don't know they're born. (Strokes cat and adopts a thoughtful expression. She descends into incomprehensible mumbling)
 
I'm not alone in predicting some mass-casualty event, because of the laws against proper drugs & the huge prevalence of RC's & Legal Highs these days make drugs use so much more unpredictable. Fortunately, this doesn't appear to be the serious disaster some of us fear is coming.

Waves at MuttonChops - hope your doing well.

This was posted over on Pillreports as a 60 Ill due to drugs - I can't find anything that stipulates ecstasy / tablets etc so had to delete it.

Seems BBC are now reporting most were taken ill due to Alcohol and they just assumed drugs for a few.

It was a 16 year and above event, so that basically says it all. No ID needed so probably many having there first beer, aw.
 
Huh, hadn't ever heard of Hardwell before. Sounds a bit like a shrug in music form. It makes Example sound incredibly good by comparison. 8)

(Bit shocking that so many kids were hospitalised, though.)

So it definitely wasn't his drugs that fucked everyone up.
