i have stopped using supplements mostly, in part because of running into this same information. i'm not sure what it is exactly but i did feel a difference when i stopped. i am not saying it was due to the stearates, though... it could have been a simple side effect of the b-vitamins i was taking, for one. there were a lot of things i have changed though recently. the main thing i have now that i didn't then, was lots of energy. the main thing i notice anyway.
i also have malabsorption issues. but i am plagued with many things like food allergies/sensitivities, chronic gallbladder distress... fructose malabsorbtion which means I can't handle much more fructose than glucose- ideally i need more glucose than fructose in foods, but I can handle hemp seeds which apparently have more sightly fructose than glucose.. but the amount of sugar is less than a gram per serving, so... that could be it. i'm not sure about this information regarding it's sugar content exactly, though, as many sites state different things about hemp seeds and their contents, and that's the one i've found with a breakdown of sugars.
but anyways, i too have had these fears but felt they were unwarranted after reading that these stearates are found in various other foods, like chocolate. but who knows.. maybe in the form of a pill they have a different effect somehow. i could have been reacting to the source ingredient of the stearates- myself, as even fats contain residues of whatever plants they were made from, much of the time, and i am super-sensitive. but.. it could have been simply a side effect of some of the massive doses of b-vitamins, or whatever. i just know i had suddenly more energy when i stopped. and more now.
An argument for why those companies label their products like that though, pushing "no fillers or binders" is simply sales techniques. The vitamin industry isn't any different from any other, for a lot of part. Granted I'd personally rather take a pure supplement myself if I have to take one... But I have heard the argument that many supplement makers hop on the latest bandwagon and overprice their products, knowing you'll buy them.
Still, I can't be sure. But the fact that it's in stuff naturally seems like it should be ok in the amounts taken.. . as long as you take it with other stuff (food). That could be an issue. Maybe if you take it alone (a supplement containing) the digestion doesn't work as well.. .and then maybe it does find it's way into some bad places.. I don't know. It's best to eat a variety of foods. They help break each other down. .. that could be the issue?
I don't know.
