Lyrica Question doesnt really fit in the megathread?

ok mods sorry but ive no idea where to put this as i posted it in the megathread and did not really get any answers. i thought BDD but decided to come here instead. this is the post:

Iv'e done some reading into this.... long story short im trying to get off benzos, and also have pain issues, does anyone have this perscribed for anxiety disorders? I'm keen to give this one a go, Says its a less kind of addictive thing than benzos for example,maybe a good withdrawal tool... but i see a lot of people sayin they get fucked up offa it. So whats the story? overuse lead to WD's if so surley not as bad as benzos. I also use op8s, and have seen the list of interactions this has with other drugs, Would it be safe to be on this andd continue to have the occasional oxy or codeine etc?
Also being in oz i hear its pretty hard to get perscribed, can anyone confirm this? Also the PBS status here in oz seems to be unclear, anyone on oz able to get this PBS?

It seems only really effective if you don't take it every day, both for thereapeutic and recreational purposes. Like, for me it's a very effective anti-depressant and anxiety-reliever if I take it every other day, if I take it every day I feel nothing. In the same way, I find it to be a great recreational drug when taken once a week, any more than that and it loses it's recreational value and becomes more "therapeutic".

About WDs, google the net and you will find hundreds of stories of WD from both therapeutic and recreational doses and this seems a sure thing if you take it long enough. Don't listen to those who say there are no WDs because they haven't taken it enough to feel it. To me, it was worse than opiate WDs, a combination of benzo/opiate WDs seems like an accurate description. Do be careful, and take precautions like stock up on an emergency supply to taper, or alternatively Gabapentin to detox with. That will save your ass.

Many thanks Nanie for clearing that up, il b chatting to my doc about going onto this possibly all depends on the PBS status here in OZ. does anyone know of that, i came across an application fot it on govt pages from 2005 but have no solid answer, half say yes half say no... aggrivating. Keepin thread open for antoher dat or two in case anyone can help me with the PBS status then will close... Many thanks

I've just been prescribed Lyrica last week.

What concerns me are the common side effects of weight gain and loss of libido. I've noticed, as has been said, that if I wait a day or two between taking them that the effect is markedly different. If I go without for two days and then eat two or three of those capsules, I definitely feel a high of sorts.

But I've just started them so my experience with the drug is obviously very limited. But, to answer your question about whether or not it would be safe to have the occasional opiate while taking Lyrica, I think so yes. Just don't overdo it. Lyrica potentiates the effects of CNS depressants (opiates etc.) quite effectively. Ergo, you should get much more mileage out of one Oxy or two than you normally would if taken without the Lyrica.

i'l largley be takin this for theraputic benifit, and use low doses of the weaker op8s. although i cant rule out that il step ova the mark and try 4 a recreational dose, see what all the fuss is about. I remember takin two of the 300 mg caps off a friend once while i was @ work, shit didnt get hectic but it definitly effected me...

Still no word on PBS satus in oz? oh well im patient

Just checked the PBS website. It's only subsidised through the Repatriation Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme and it requires an authority (the specific indication for authority to prescribe it under RPBS is "refractory neuropathic pain not controlled by other drugs").

Gabapentin is also only available for pain on the RPBS schedule although it can be prescribed on the PBS for partial seizures which are uncontrolled by other anti-epilepsy medication.

that answers my question.... from what im reading its gotta b for that reason to qualify for the discount, my doc's pretty cool he might just might put me on it under that pretence if im lucky. as posted in my other thread im off 4 an early morning chat with doc about all this shit early this week... I have serious apprehention about going on epilum as todays been only marjonly bad day since i dropped all the anti depressant shit and i thinks its all outta my system now, and ive not felt more like me than i have since ive been sick. its a headfuck what to do, but on this topic, again i thank you much Lolie

He'd have to try you on other anti-epileptics before he could prescribe you the Gabapentin, which might be why he's prescribed the Epilim.

^ just not comfortable about taking it.... done some reading, Also seen several friends get themselfs pretty much a hellovalot worse when fucking with mood stabelisers and anti depressants, i dont trust em, i dont like em, im afraid they will permanently take away that little thing about me that makes me who i am, thus life would no longer hold meaning for me apart from the fact i'd still have a child to raise,
and im sure she wouldnt want me flat and mindless that would kill her inside as much as it would me.
Benzos are proven in concrete, Lyrica seems to be not far behind but better in terms of weaning off benzos and general anxiety,
many of these other drugs IMO are thrown out in a game of labrat until ur lucky enough to maybe find one that might suit but for me its only been short periods, and that ami truly fucked me up i bieleive, just gettin back to normal now.

You can always get your doctor to write you a private prescription for Lyrica but it's pretty expensive.

Klpoins already on private but its realitivly inexpensive
im just over all this other guesswork bulshit he's throwin @ me... i dont need a mood stabeliser, i dont need an anti depressant, i just need to keep my anxiey in check and hopefuly get off daily klpoin use.
