Lyrica (Pregabilin?) and Gabapentin

Are these drugs used in this country? I've heard such great things about them from American bluelighters, but my psychiatrist said they're not really used in Australia - which, incidentally, is exactly what he said about clonidine.
 
They sure are used here. In fact, both are listed on the PBS and at least one prominent BL staff member from Australia is scripted gabapentin.

Sounds like your psychiatrist is out of the loop...
 
what are you aiming to achieve through taking either medication?
 
I've been having lyrica for over 5 years, not that uncommon as other people I met in injury rehab had it as well. I take it for neuropathic pain, probably they had it for that as welll.
 
It is likely that he intentionally misled me; he never makes mistakes and is the best shrink I've ever seen. And yeah I had a previous issue with benzos and he may have coloured his response. He's also foremost a psychotherapist so he's always reluctant to use drugs instead of therapy.

I'm 2 weeks off bupe and I can barely function because of anxiety. It's totally debillitating and has never been this bad, not even before bupe. I'm on avanza and lexapro but I've been on them for ages and I feel like they're ineffective.

yeah i'm scripted gabapentin and have been scripted lyrica in the past. i personally find gabapentin more effective with my pain.

i know wazza, another australian poster, is prescribed lyrica. - edit, i should read the whole thread before replying...see wazza's posted:)
 
I have a family member on Lyrica for nerve pain and i just checked the box, 300mg, 56 caps and the cost is pretty dear. no prices, but it's expensive.
 
I have been scripted both and enjoy lyrica more the first time you have it you actually get a weird high some say like mdxx.
They are pretty expensive meds, work great for withdrawals and sleep.
Dont waste your first dose of lyrica with a low dose 300mg+ its real smacky and fun the first time.
 
Lyrica is pretty high on the feelsgoodman scale.. I wish I had it more often, but at least it keeps my tolerance at basically nil.

300mg = Chillin'.
450mg = Whoa, this shit is pretty good!
600mg = Whoa! This is ... *sleep*
 
i didn't know you can get high on Lyrica. my partner has been taking these for the past few months.

How long to the effects last?

If he's prescribed them for a genuine medical reason please don't take his medication :|
 
It makes you walk with they do on fear and loathing after ether.
I once took about 3g with a pile of gabapentin as well and i couldn't walk for days. i had to crawl around on the ground when i finally could walk i walked like i was drunk as.
 
Lyrica is a very long acting drug.

In terms of effect, i'd say 5-7hrs + from immediate intoxication you'll be feeling fairly legless - some strange spacial perception (not unlike ketamine), alot of euphoria to go with it, which is unlike most k trips.

1 of 2 things will happen, personally first dose try for 350-500mg dose range for optimal effect.

1st = you'll just pass out. This happened for me the first time i took a 'rec' dose of lyrica. You begin feeling real good, next minute you wake up and 7hrs have flown by.

2 - you'll get the K like buzz i described above.

Alright now im itching for some Lyrica.

i've found lexapro (and all other SSRIs ive tried) is good for depression but does dick for anxiety

i'm on aropax now - still heaps of anxiety

my doc wont subscribe benzos cos im a H addict

does anyone think these Lyrica and such drugs would be more freely given to ppl with history of drug use?
 
I'd imagine credit card companies would be all for it considering the amount of debt people could rack up on their card. Probably not the only racking they'd use their card for.

I'm not sure about gabapentin but I doubt Lyrica would be prescribed easily either as it will cause addiction with daily use and is recreational to some extent.

Long time reader first time poster! I have been scripted Lyrica for the past 8 months and it is very expensive not being on the PBS I asked my GP yesterday whether I could change to Gabapentin so tonight I will be starting Gabapentin.

Even though Lyrica isn't on the PBS and I pay through the nose for it since starting it I will honestly say it is a miracle drug because it has helped my nerve pain to the point where I can actually sleep through a night. Not only has it helped my pain it has helped with my depression.

The only downside to Lyrica is the weight gain. Within a few hours of taking it I subconsciously eat and I wake up to different packets of food on my desk that I have no recollection of going out to the kitchen and getting. I have only ever experienced one other severe side effect from Lyrica and that is urinary retention.

So to answer your question as others have. Yes both Lyrica and Gabapentin are both prescribed in Australia and both are not on the PBS but I am hoping soon that it will be added to the list cause it is honestly a wonder drug.

I don't take it, never have, but i live with a family member who does use lyrica for nerve pain and they like it too, they say it helps alot, and yeah it costs alot.

What you mentioned regarding the eating and subconsciously eating on them rings true here as well. I often get up and see lots of remnants of a fridge raid in the morning. More so than before the person was on lyrica that's for sure. At first i thought it was because of the munchies from smoking some weed, but i think it's happening even when no pot and still on the lyrica.

Be interesting to see if anyone else has noticed this side effect from lyrica.
