Lyrica(Pregabalin), Neurontin(Gabapentin), Tramadol,

Hi,

I've just come back from Indonesia, spending 3mths overthere.
Tramadol, in Jkt is an OTC med.
And there are about 25 generic of it.

I bought some of it, and using it 200mg SR twice a day.

( Strangely, Panadeine with Paracetamol 500mg + Codeine Phosphate 8mg is a controlled drug over there, but Tramadol is an OTC med. Quite the opposite to what there is in Australia.)

I've been seeing my Psychiatrist and Neurologist in Sydney for years.
With diagnose : Anxiety, Nervous Tension Headache resulting pain behind my eyes

I've been taking Tramadol 200SR twice daily, Clonazepam 2mg/day, and just recently my Neurologist prescribed Lyrica 75mg twice/day.



My question is :

1. What is the difference between Lyrica and Neurontin?
2. Which one, according to those who have used both meds, is better ?
3. Now with 75mg twice/day, I really don't find any effect from Lyrica. I read from internet, that when used in higher dose, Lyrica will cause drunkeness like having a beer or two. Does Neurontin in higher dose do the same thing?
( I know both meds will cause somnolence, ataxia, etc)
4. I have another appointment with my Neurologist on 20Apr 2012, quite a long wait, so I went to the nearest GP, and asked for Neurontin 300mg. Will Neurontin have the same effect as Lyrica? ( I also read that Neurontin has a greater tolerance, meaning that, it has to be taken in escalating dose to get same effect, and its bioavailability is low compared to Lyrica). I also read from those using Lyrica, they say that it works better. But in contrast, I also read those using Neurontin say that it works better for them.
So my question is, for those who have used the 2 meds, can you please give advice so i can decide whether I should stick to Lyrica, or change to Neurontin ?

1. Lyrica is a more potent drug, basically same effects as Neurontin, except it costs a fuck load of dosh.
2. Lyrica, by far. I have had bad experiences with it, usually me taking 28 x 75 mg sample packs and ODing.
3. Yes, Neurontin at 1200 to 1600 mg will promote a high.
4. Neurontin and Lyrica are the same drugs. Lyrica is pregabalin and is more potent/shorter acting than Neurontin. My advice would be to stick to Nerontin 800 mg twice daily.

1. Neurontin and pregabalin are basically the same drugs but pregabalin is x4 more potent
2. Lyrica is the better of the two
3. 75mg is NOT going to fuck you up at all, that is like the dose you take when first getting on it. My recommendation is take anywhere from 300-600mg. Very dose dependent drug. 450mg in my opinion is the perfect dose
4. Pregablin if far superior. You just need to adjust your dose. 150mg a day is a starter dose. Up your dose to at least 300mg/day. Your taking very little. I'm prescribed the maximum dose of 600mg/day. When I want to get fucked up on it I take 600mg and then stop using it for a few days because tolerance kicks in quick.

Lyrica n Neurontin

I've been prescribed Lyrica 600mg/day.
I always take, instead of 2 separate doses, all at once when I wake up in morning.

Strange. I read so many testimonies saying even 450mg or less, some with 600mg, they all got the buzz, euphoric, etc.

I take 600mg at once, and felt none.
I also take it with Tramadol 400mg+ 4mg Alprazolam+ 2mg Clonazepam.

Strangely, I only got some antianxiety effect.
They make me less anxious.

I've got 100 caps of Neurontin 100mg.
So I take 200mg after 1 hour later.
Then another 200mg 1 hour later.

Then the effect comes.
I feel great. Euphoric. Energised. Confidence. Talkative.

Does anyone know whether it's the effect of Neurontin?
( I thought Neurontin is low potency, that 800mg would equal to 300mg Lyrica. ).

But in this case, I'm only taking 400mg Neurontin.

( Lots of testimonies I read, to get the effect, at least they must consume 1800mg Neurontin).

Anyone has any idea what's going on with my meds?

I tried Lyrica briefly, helped a little with pain but even fairly high doses didn't feel recreational to me, just drowsy and tired.

I think I'm going to talk to my Neurologist of changing the Lyrica 600mg/day to Neurontin 2400mg/day. ( That's the equivalent dose when I asked a pharmacist).
As with high dose Neurontin, I got feeling of wellbeing, confident, positive, compared to 600mg Lyrica.

Has anyone ever notice this? ( 600mg Lyrica is inferior to 2400mg Neurontin?)
