I tried looking this up on google, but couldn't find much info. So I thought id see if anyone on here would know by chance.
Last night I started my first tattoo (pretty large and on my back), and I still have another 8 hours to go.
Sitting thru it was torture, and pretty painful for me.
What I was wondering is if lyrica would help to not have as much pain while getting tattooed on my next apt.
Does anyone have any experience with this or know somebody that has? I would think it could possibly help, since tattoo pain is from nerve pain/exoskeleton pain (I think)...
When I was getting it last night I took my normal mg dose of oxycodone and it didn't do a thing ! The pain from the tattoo seemed to have almost sobered me up from opiate feeling.
Please let me know if any of u blue lighters has any knowledge on this...
Thanks

It's worth a go. Either Pregabalin (Lyrica) or some Valium or Xanax may help whilst your having the tattoo done.

Have you got any tolerance to these drugs? I always used to take Benzos whenever I had to have any medical treatment, blood tests etc.. Sorry I have no tattoos myself so I can't really truely identify with what your going through, although I have many heavy tattoo'd friends :D

It will probably not reduce it to any significant degree. While high doses of lyrica do have some effect on normal nociceptive pain, the pain relief you'll get is probably on par with a few ibuprofen.

I eat 900mg lyrica daily for nerve pain and I still suffer my normal muscle pains without much difference.

I think a few shots of vodka will help you alot more. A NMDAR antagonist would be the best.

EARN YOUR INK. Take the pain.

im with ^^ its allso a good idea to be able to notice if he hit something wrong, nerves etc?
and second,,.. why lyrica or benzo's? yeah you relax but they dont take the pain...
just eat or apply some ibuprofen. and have fun :)

im a small time tattoo'er myself, old graffiti artist and paintbrusher on canvases, cars, rooms, etc...

and iff you were high on it i would kick you out of the tattoo shop
any tattoo'r or artist hate when the surface/canvas moves all the time! hehe

just a tip! dont be so wasted you cant sit still.. i hate drunk/wasted people that in the moment want a tattoo'
drunk people cant sit still, cant shut up, cant stop going to the bathroom all the time
and they often regret it when they are sobering up!

my tip is get some ibuprofen cream and rub that on your back before going, the more you move the harder it is for the artist to do strait lines etc

Good thinking ! I definitely love / hate / loved my drugs and I do a lot of them but I was sober as a judge every time I got a tattoo. It's not only sensible , it's part of the art form. EARN your tattoo or it's generally not gonna be respected by people who love the art form. Not to kill the thread , just keeping it real

I didn't once squirm or move a hair when he was doing my back piece. He said I did awesome for my first time. Only reason why I was wondering if anything would help is bcuz I have 8 hours to go. And 2-3hrs is really his minimum per session he likes to do.

@ pally Pete- I don't have much tolerance with them no. A blue Xanax is more than enough for me. Lyrica I'm fine with. I have taken 2-3 75mg and been fine

if oxycodone didn't help then i highly doubt lyrica would do much better. the painkilling effects of lyrica are not going to be prevalent for acute nerve pain caused by a needle nor is it a good "pre-operative" measure. the only thing it might be good for, and this is a stretch, is to help you possibly fall asleep while you are laying down. the only reason i say that is because people with low tolerance to this drug have a very difficult time staying awake when consuming over 200mg.

but honestly i would just deal with the pain instead of trying to mask it, for two reason: you are probably going to waste meds, and it's a tattoo........suck it up :)

lol just noticed the OP posted this back in august, probably finished the piece up by now, but i guess it's good info to have for anyone else that might be curious

Ya, not done yet. Took me a year to get in to this guy. And takes 1-2months to go back to continue what he started. He's busyy!

A NMDAR antagonist would be the best.
This. Also makes for example an ice cold shower to just "oh, yes, feels cold.. but what?". Can get dangerous if one does not know the dissociatives, think about these stories of people getting violent on PCP. NMDA antagonists are not less effective than opiates, maybe even more for some kinds of pain. Methoxetamine was discovered by someone who had phantom pain also.
