This morning I've taken 150mg Lyrica (Pregablin) and 5mg Buspar for my social anxiety. The Lyrica is double my usual dose of 75mg and I can feel it quite a lot more than usual. Feels weird. Sometimes have trouble focusing my eyes and my coordination is a bit affected. Feels like I've had a few shots of strong liquor.

I took these because my mother announced she was coming over unexpectedly to drop something off. Things like that, unexpected visitors, always sets off my social anxiety big time..even if it's family members, and especially if they're just coming for a passing visit.. I find it very hard to manage these situations and stay calm at the door/maintain eye contact etc. As it turned out, she didn't come over after all but may come later after work.

Anyway back to the experiment.. I'm feeling a bit fuzzy from the Lyrica and don't like it much. It reminds me of GHB but it's not as nice and seems stronger like a high dose of GHB that makes you a bit dizzy and sleepy. The Buspar doesn't seem to be doing anything at all and is not effecting the Lyrica.

Although Buspar is indicated on the list of drug interactions for Lyrica. It says it may increase the CNS and respiratory effects. I'm tempted to have a drink, but it says alcohol is not recommended with Lyrica, so better not. I might take another 5mg dose of Lyrica.

I'm 4.5 hours into it and it seems a stable combo so far.. I don't know if it will help with social anxiety but I will report back later with an update.

UPDATE: I decided to take another 5mg Buspar. I experienced the weird "brain zaps" typical of Buspar at 10mg, but they only lasted a brief moment and went away.

LAST UPDATE: It's now 7pm, 8 hours since starting this experiment. I'm still feeling the effects but not as much as earlier. I went out earlier to the shops and then for a long bike ride.. I must say the meds didn't really do much for my social anxiety, I was still nervous, but it did take the edge off the anxiety a little. I would say it's something like taking 1 or 2 mg of Valium.

Buspar is not a prn, so do not expect to take a pill and find a noticeable change in consciousness immediately thereafter. It has to build in your system for some time to take effect. How long have you been taking it for?

I been taking it off and on for about 6-7 months, maybe longer. I recently took a break from it over the last 2 months, but prior to that had been taking it daily at 5mg.

Two months is long enough for it to get out of your system. Try to not stop it abruptly in the future, as you are supposed to taper off it instead of going cold turkey because it can cause drastic changes in one's personality. Buspar is a medication which is best taken as directed, under all circumstances, as they have no recreational value.

Isn't 5mg a very low dose though? That's half a tablet.. how do you taper down any lower? Also according to everything I've read about Buspar (and I always research anything I take very well) there are no withdrawal symptoms with it, even if stopped abruptly. One thing I did notice though is that it says on Wikipedia its only intended for short-term anxiety treatment < 4 weeks and any longer needs to be under the supervision of a doctor..probably due to increased risk of side effects.

I agree, i hate the way Busbar makes me feel though. If i take too much i get these electric jolts going through my body. I was prescribed 30mgs 2 times a day and i after a few months of the electric shock feeling i had had enough.

I know what you mean about the weird electric zaps.. I get them even at 10mg which seems to be too much for me in a single dose.
