Hey guys-

never written in this forum before, but I was just wondering if someone
could give me a (somewhat) concrete answer about this:

i'm taking lithium and lamictal for bipolar disorder. i am aware that taking LSD
while on lithium can cause you to experience a completely disassociated state,
which is something i'm not really interested in. i would just like to know how long
i'd have to stop taking the lithium for it to be safe to trip. i honestly don't really need the medication and when i don't take it i don't experience any withdrawl, i think it's because i'm on a very low dose.

thanks!

Oh fuck. I'm glad you posted before taking the plunge!
2. Lithium or tricyclics (like Amitriptyline, Anafranil, Asendin, Aventyl, Elavil, Endep, Norfranil, Norpramin, Pamelor, Sinequan, Surmontil, Tipramine, Tofranil, Vivactil) are fairly consistently reported as being very bad in combination with LSD. People attempting this combination are unable to communicate with others, they go into "fugue states" where they end up in other places and don't know how they got there, and they are generally in a terrible place psychologically. Life-threatening seizures and at least one DEATH have been reported to be triggered by the combination of LSD and lithium.

Lithium is about the worst thing you could combine with LSD short of VX nerve gas. It's usually a very safe chemical but in this one combo it's potentially deadly for some reason.

but i wanna expand my mind, bro (LOL)

thanks for showing me that, do you have any idea
how long it would take to lower the lithium levels in
my body enough to take the acid?

A cursory search says a few days, as it doesn't seem to bioaccumulate (meaning it doesn't build up to high levels with prolonged use and stick around forever). You want to research its half life and bioaccumulation on your own more extensively, though. It could be your life that depends on it. You might also check for contraindications with psilocin (magic mushrooms). If there aren't any that would be a better bet.

With mushrooms it seems an almost equally bad idea, and I didn't have to look around long to see that.

Perhaps extend that to a week if you can, if that impedes your mental stability I guess you shouldn't be tripping in the first place. My point is the elimination half life (for extended release) is about 20-24 hours or something? That is average, suppose in you it is longer then it's not worth taking the risk.

I wanna try to find out what it is about this contraindication but I have stuff to do. Man I hate this.

Upon ingestion, lithium becomes widely distributed in the central nervous system and interacts with a number of neurotransmitters and receptors, decreasing norepinephrine release and increasing serotonin synthesis.

Lithium may replace sodium in neurons, sodium levels and the differences between them produce an action potential so the net result might be expected to be increased neurological action. Apparently the mechanism of action is not really proven but this is the working theory.

Seizures (also seen with LSD + Lithium) or brain zaps are apparently a result of an excess of neurotransmitters in the synaptic cleft particularly serotonin, while at other junctions there may be too little. This constitutes a nervous system running amok and transducing signals uninhibited causing shocks that are experienced as zaps or seizures. Artificial inhibition by means of a CNS depressants (e.g. benzo's) should help if only the situation were that simple.

I am not pretending this puzzle is pieced together but here are just some scraps that seem to connect in ways, allowing suspicions as to the real malfunctional state that is produced.

I don't really get why MDMA + LSD isn't more dangerous considering the above. There must be more to it.

I'll report back to you guys ;)

i figure if i don't take my lithium for at least 3-4 days i should be good.

Lithium has a long half life i believe so...it is a metal metals tend to stay in ur body much longer....I would wait a month or ATLEAST 2 weeks to bee safe...and it also depends on how long uve been taking lithium...so look up half life of lithium..and i think cold turkying lithium isnt a good idea heavy chemical change...can cause siezures i imagine so...becareful...do research into all this
