I'm new to these forums, so I thought I’d describe my latest acid experience, not actually my first but the first reportable one as I’ll explain - I'll try and make this as good and detailed as possible because I know there’s a lot of reports on lsd and mdma, the reason I’m reporting is because it's my first time going out _just_ to trip and I remembered a lot more details than usual - hope its up to scratch and not too boring for everyone...
I'd taken acid several times before years ago and just wandered around with friends, all laughing our asses off, my cheeks and jaw were constantly saw from grinning so much - but this was all weak acid and never had more than one at a time out of caution, so I never had any visuals or psychedelic experiences - just bright colours and lights and occasional flickers in the peripheral vision.
More recently I’ve had the good stuff but it's always been in combination with e at parties. Usually outdoor doofs or music concerts - great fun, but because of the other drugs it's all a bit of a blur.
So anyway, last weekend I decided to try and get the full lsd experience (TM) without other drugs and the party environment to distract me.
Two friends and I got hold of some paper (purple ohmms and atoms) and went for a drive up to the Dandenong ranges out east of Melbourne.
Stopped halfway for supplies - water, skittles (taste the rainbow ;-) and other stuff, then we munched one and a half trips each in the car (6pm) - and proceeded up the mountain.
We drove up to a spot on the side of Mount Dandenong that, after a short walk, provides an awesome view of nearly the entire city of Melbourne - it was a beautiful clear day and we could see all the way to the sun shimmering off the waters of Port Phillip bay.
We found a spot to sit down and talk crap while it kicked in - took the usual hour before I felt the first metallic taste in my mouth, heightened colour perception and increased attentiveness to detail in the world around. We started laughing more at stupid things as usual.
Always seem to get a laughter feedback loop where we start laughing at some dumb joke or concept and then realise that its not that funny but the sight of the others laughing and the idea of laughing at something completely incongruous triggers off more laughter
At about 7:30pm I decided to roll a j (which was extremely difficult) and we all shared that - this really kicked the acid in - I started staring at the sky and the clouds and letting my vision go out of focus - the sky suddenly started shifting colour from pale blue to deep aqua to green and the clouds began merging together and rolling up and down and in and out like waves on the ocean, it was just incredibly beautiful.
Over the next hour or so the sunset began and colours in the sky got more and more amazing - the orange clouds looked like they were molten neon lava - the whole sky looked like a shimmering lake of liquid fire with multi-coloured islands floating on it. truly indescribable.
As it got darker the city lights began to stand out - neon pinpricks in every direction as far as the eye could see from north to south, eventually the whole city was lit up below us and it was almost impossible to tear ourselves away but we decided to head off somewhere else and see what adventures could be had, after another joint of course.
I wasn't too keen to drive, but it was out on country roads so I could take it easy and I was centred in reality enough to concentrate. Drove down the road about 10 mins to a park with a big pine forest and lots of other trees. We sat around the car for a while listening to music, which was fantastic in itself, I can't get over how good music sounds on acid, its a whole new dimension... especially psy-trance.
We decided to go for a walk in the trees - headed down a slope through lots of long grass - it was dark and the grass and scrub on the ground kept looking like it was leaping up at me and I kept moving my hands in front of me to make sure all the things I was seeing weren’t real
We got into the forest and walked for a bit, the shadows and the trees were moving constantly it was like walking through a dream.
Got to a clearing and lay down on the grass and just tripped to the stars for about an hour - really focused on the visuals - the stars were whirling and spinning in fractal patterns and I could manipulate the patterns how I wanted - what was fun was turning them into a huge spinning vortex like a whirlwind flowing out from my centre of vision, it was like flying through a tunnel in reality.
When we got back to the car I recalled someone had told me once about using a camera flash to get crazy visuals, I remembered I had my camera in the car so we took turns in flashing each other in the eyes.
Haha - what can I say - it was incredible, the flash created this huge neon blue blob which slowly shrank and changed colours and contorted in my vision, I could make it change shapes to get all sorts of amazing effects, I tried flashing my peripheral vision and it was like someone was constantly shining a light from the side at me and tendrils of colours crept in from it. Had great fun with that for a while.
We spent the rest of the night just wandering around and laying down and tripping out together, it was a quiet easy going night and really allowed me to observe and appreciate the full effects of the acid. In
combination with the pot it was a bit introspective and I had lots of thoughts about where my life was going and such, but couldn't seem to hold thoughts for long enough to come to any conclusions. Noticed the possibility of getting panicky but it was easy to centre myself and remain at peace. I don't normally smoke much pot these days because even a joint sends me a bit too introspective and paranoid which is not a feeling I enjoy a great deal, I am a bit self-conscious at times and it seems to tear down my self-affirmations that keep my confidence in place and I end up questioning everything about myself - I didn't get this on the acid at all which was great.
Anyway, once I had settled down enough to drive again we drove home and sat down and talked about it for a while before crashing out at about 3am.
Except for the first couple of hours we barely spoke to each other at all, just all enjoying our individual trips - but we had fun discussing it afterwards.
It lasted about 7 hours from 7pm to 2am, the peak for about 4-5 hours in the middle of that time. Overall a wonderful experience. I've never had a bad time on acid - got a little nervous sometimes in large crowds of people but nothing serious. I am careful to always be around good friends and without any serious issues that I’m working through mentally. I would hate to spoil it for myself.
The next day I was mentally fine but I slept for ages - about 12 hours. I love the fact that I can still do things after LSD - ecstasy makes me feel like not doing anything and really dumb upstairs. Alcohol and E make me feel like I’ve sacrificed a huge quantity of brain cells over the next few days, never a problem with acid.
About acid visuals - maybe I’m analysing them too much, but I just wanted to compare notes on the
effects I always get. For me they're like a whole lot of little whirling eddies of interference across my vision - if I concentrate I can see the interference pattern itself but usually they merge together with the objects I’m seeing to produce all sorts of different effects. Often while looking at something uniform like the night sky I see sort of fractal whirls that look exactly like parts of the mandelbrot set but animated and flowing into each other.
The major visual effect I get in daylight is of two layers of vision separating and waving up and down or left and right. If I look at trees it tends to move up and down, staring at some really tall trees is almost dizzying.
Looking at an horizon or the ground seems to create waves that tilt up and down.
At night its often like a screen of dark blobs in the shape of the surroundings move around in my vision - if there is a single source of light, parts of that light appear in places where there is no light, sometimes I think there is car headlights coming from either side of me but there never is. Then there is the colour effects on top of that, blobs and patterns of colour constantly changing within the interference.
In conclusion, I really had a great time with this - very different from the full on party experiences I’ve had with acid which I’ve barely remembered enough details to be able to write a few sentences on.
The whole time I felt so full of life and wonder, really happy to be alive and optimistic.
Anyway, that’s all for now, hope this has been interesting enough to warrant posting.
