“Ummm is he even going to come back!?”
Came the query from my friend G.
“Oh he’ll be fine…i hope” replied P.
”Of course I’ll be fine, this trips for Syd!” i answered to both of them.

After all, it was my birthday, i was with my best friends on the coast and with not a worry in the world. I popped the third tab into my mouth and swallowed it down, vowing to go further than I had ever before.

Sitting on G’s outside deck, with a glimpse of the ocean across the road just as the afternoon was setting in, a gentle rain slowly trickling down from above, things couldn’t have been more perfect.

My friends had never tripped before, so I had prepared them as best i could, showed them some stuff i had read that explained things, and told them of my experiences. Really though, all I could do was just tell them to trust me and just go with it and they would have a great time.

About half an hour later after nervously making small talk, all eager for effects to take hold, I began noticing the trees swaying to and fro ever so funnily, while the ocean took on an altogether new glistening sheen. A huge grin ran across my face, as I knew we were in for a hell of a ride..

G & P were both anxious, wondering what would happen and when, but as soon as they saw me with that stupid grin on my face they were swept up in laughter that lasted for a good 15 minutes.

P jumped out of his chair and said excitedly “I just..Can’t Stop Smiling!! And I don’t know why!”

As i watched the bricks of the building across the road rapidly fading in and out of colour, changing shape and dripping into each other vividly, I told the guys to check it out, to see if they were seeing what I was.

“Whoa” comes the reply from G. “Uhhh far out” “Is that..is that building..moving?”
“Yyyup!” i replied, urging him to look further.

I leaned back in my chair as Bob Marley played over the stereo and focused my gaze towards the building clouds. There had been a cyclone system building recently and i could FEEL the raw power of the clouds in the air as they swirled and morphed vigourously. Spirals, shapes, fractals, faces…I let my imagination run wild and was lost in the clouds for what seemed like hours.

I sat up quickly as we saw a strange sight pass us by right in front of us!
A man on a pushbike had rode past us, wearing a helmet with cable ties sticking out of it. This was weird enough, but then, he did a complete circle, came back towards us and sure enough right into the driveway and up to us on the deck outside!

“Hey there!” the strange man exclaimed in a thick british accent.
“Hiya!” said my friends back in unison.
“Oh i just heard your guys tunes playing, and i really dig it! Oh man it takes me back! Do you guys mind if i just sit and listen with you for a while!?”
This was all very very verrrry weird to us at the time.
“Uhh nah, thats cool man” my friend replied.

By this point, i was barely capable of verbal communication. Lost in the confusion of this random pushbike guy in his mid 50’s wearing a strange helmet, and lost in the clouds for the past 15 minutes. I was struggling to keep a grip on any sort of reality but i was just fine with that.

“Yer a Wizard Michael”
Came a text on my phone from an amazingly beautiful girl I hadn’t seen for a while. This sent ecstatic feelings coursing through me, just to hear from her on my birthday, I truly felt loved and wanted to convey how much it meant to me that she had messaged me, only my screen was swirling crazily and i couldn’t operate the phone whatsoever at that point. At that time i truly was a wizard, capable of anything imaginable, except operating my phone it seemed!

Soon enough the man, Roger his name was, who turned out to be quite eccentric, was regailling us with tales of the 60s in England and what it was like growing up in that time. It was just some crazy synchronicity in my mind that he was from Cambridge where Syd Barrett had lived. How fitting i thought!

Eventually our new friend Roger left of his own accord and we all looked at each other and just burst out laughing. What had happened just now? Did that really happen? Did Roger even exist?

Luckily, we took a photo of him for posterity.

As the afternoon turned into night things got more and more intense. “I need to uhh lay down” I stammered. I could no longer hold conversation with my friends as the visuals i was seeing were so completely overwhelming as to encompass my whole vision!

I lay down on G’s bed and stared at the stucco ceiling as TOOLs Lateralus played. This turned out to be one of the best times of my life, watching that ceiling come to life in its organic form as the patterns swirled and played within each other to the rhythm of Lateralus.

I called out to my friends, that they had to come and see what i was seeing! Being good friends they thought they would humour me at first so they did, but as they lay down beside me and looked up at what was happening, i saw their faces change as they saw what i was seeing. It was nothing short of incredible..

Later that night things got more and more crazy, as all sorts of other random friends showed up, housemates and housemates friends, most that I didn’t know. This really put a downer on things, as three out of their mind trippers are probably best left to their own devices, not surrounded by drunken strangers.

Eventually we made a hurried exit to the beach where i lay in the grass and watched the power of the cyclone fueled ocean, giant waves crashing down, overwhelmed once again by mother nature. Tripping with my two best friends, watching the clouds and the ocean at work, out in nature. Nothing could possibly have been better.

By the end of the night I was physically and mentally exhausted, I’d seen so much and been through some intense moments, my brain was well and truly worn out. We all agreed it had been a long and strange trip, and I knew it had bought us even closer together.

I’ll never forget all the events of that afternoon, Roger the random bike rider, laughing fits, shared hallucinations, and the utter closeness that tripping with good friends can bring.

There is nothing else in the world quite like it.

Great report. I enjoyed reading it. Roger is probably the most random thing to ever happen in your life. I bet it's one classic picture you have now lol.

Your report really made me nostalgic. Reminds me of some past experiences with some of my best friends. Makes me wanna eat some acid lol. Hopefully will be soon. :D
