LSD death would be state first, officials say

Another article. IMO if the husband thought it was acid he was innocent. The guy who mailed it must have known what it was. If he lied an told them it was acid I hope he rots in jail. Fucking cops don't have an Elrich test either? Why did it take so long to determine it wasn't acid? They had samples. Now you look like WV bumpkins who prematurely blamed a death on an LSD overdose and got international coverage.

ROANE COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- From Washington state to a courtroom in Roane County, Chad Renzelman, 33, was brought there because of his connection with an old college friend, Todd Honaker.

Both men are being charged with the murder of Honaker’s wife, Renee Honaker.

“He found me on Facebook,” Renzelmen said about Todd. “I never met her (Renee).”

Regardless, Renzelman is facing a first-degree murder charge in her death.

Deputies say he sent the Honaker’s a new drug -- causing Renee to overdose and die.

The deputy chief medical examiner, Dr. Al Mock, says the drug is called NBOMe and has only been around a year or less.

There's still more to be learned about the drug, but the medical examiner says its effects are similar to acid.

This is the first time Dr. Mock has seen anybody die from it.

The defense argues that Renee's prescriptions mixed with alcohol may be to blame.

“In my opinion it's (NBOMe) what pushed her over the edge,” Dr. Mock said.

Monday, a judge ruled the evidence is enough to send this case to a grand jury.

“I'd say I’m innocent,” Renzelman said.

When asked why, Renzelman replied, “I'd have to discuss that with my lawyer before I comment any further.”

For now both Renzelman and Honaker remain in jail.

This article made me sick!!! It makes me wonder if law enforcement knows anything about illegal/semi legal drugs. Oh and in order to OD on LSD you would have to eat around 5000 hits of average potency blotter

Typical media spin. The media gets info from the police the police want to make the public think they are "busting labs" and "deadly drugs".

In reality some dubass got some research chems put them on paper sold them to another person with a sketchy medical history(prescribed 20 different meds..) and thats how bad things happen.

But "nuclear chemist" "LSD production" "manufactured" "working lab" sounds so much cooler. and the public/media attention will die off so the public will probably never read the truth.

The first article made national news as an lsd death. The retraction stating ot was a research chemical gets zero press coverage. Journalism at its finest :\

Considering the massive doses of lsd the gov gave to ppl knowingly and unknowingly during the mkUltra project, if the ld50 was minute there would have been tons of deaths and everyone would be aware of that. Plus the local pd are so inept when it comes to drugs that a kitchen scale bags and baking soda in a box with a pyxrex measuring cup equal crack cocaine manufacturing facility for 50000000 lol...also a 34yr old nuclear chemist doesnt automatically make him capable of being a master organic synthesist. Just because he works in a power plant and by trade is a chemist doesnt mean he can produce complex drugs.

"LSD affects serotonin receptors in the brain and can cause serious long-term side effects."
No scientific basis.

"research chemicals used in LSD production"
I don't know of any LSD precursors that could be classed as research-chemicals.

The estimated LD50 for LSD is around 10mg. I can guarantee you that what she took was not genuine LSD.

It must piss off the powers that be so much when a drug with the popularity & strength of LSD brings so few problems... No wonder they have to make up stories of fatalities.

So this one turned out to be a NBOMe huh? Big surprise, didn't see that coming at all! ;)

I know the fact that it was a NBOME is important. But prescribed 20 medications? holy shit.

Still following this story. They are saying it was 25b-nbome now? I don't think i have seen a 25b death yet, and they don't seem to have a clue...

Synthetic hallucinogen blamed in Roane County woman's death
Federal authorities given access to husband, chemist's Facebook accounts

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- A Roane County woman died after taking two doses of a synthetic hallucinogenic drug that her husband bought for her thinking it was LSD, according to an affidavit filed in federal court this week.

Todd Anthony Honaker, 35, of Left Hand, was charged with first-degree murder and delivery of a controlled substance in the March 1 death of his wife, Renee. Honaker told police he and his wife each took two hits of LSD before she started convulsing and died.

Honaker told police he bought the drug from 32-year-old Chad Michael Renzelman, a chemist at a nuclear power plant in Kennewick, Wash. Renzelman allegedly mailed the drug to Honaker inside an anniversary card with instructions to hold it under his tongue for 30 minutes, likening its effects to "flying."

However, authorities believe Renzelman mailed Honaker an experimental hallucinogen instead of LSD, according to an affidavit for a search warrant filed Wednesday by U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration Agent Barry Parsons. U.S. Magistrate Judge Dwane Tinsley granted a search warrant that day.

Renee Honaker's autopsy revealed she had died from abusing a synthetic hallucinogen known as 25b-NBOMe, according to the affidavit. DEA chemists say 25b-NBOMe is both structurally and pharmacologically similar to 2C-B, which is a Schedule I hallucinogenic controlled substance.

"At this point investigators no longer considered this case to involve LSD," Parsons wrote in the affidavit.

As a result of the investigation into Honaker's death, authorities with the DEA officially added 25b-NBOMe to the federal register as a Schedule I hallucinogenic.

Parsons filed Wednesday's affidavit to gain access to Renzelman and Honaker's Facebook accounts from the company's headquarters in California. Honaker told investigators that he chatted with Renzelman on Facebook before receiving the drug from him.

On March 1, Todd Honaker called 911 and said his wife had possibly been poisoned. Paramedics found Renee Honaker unresponsive on her living room floor. Police said Todd Honaker was found lying on his bed, repeatedly asking officers if his wife was dead.

Honaker said his wife began convulsing about 30 minutes after taking two doses of the drug, according to the affidavit. Before calling for help, Honaker put the remaining doses back inside the envelope, placed it in the trash and took the trash bag to the end of his driveway, according to the statement by police.

DEA chemists analyzed the remaining doses found inside Honaker's trash can and determined the drug was made with 25b-NBOMe, according to the affidavit. The doses came on blotter paper with a picture of a dancing panda bear.

Police in Washington executed a search warrant at Renzelman's home and allegedly found 150 jars of hallucinogenic mushrooms, eight containers of unknown liquids, blotter paper with dancing pandas and blotter paper soaked in an unknown liquid. He was charged with delivery of a controlled substance and extradited to West Virginia in March. Analysis of similar papers found inside Renzelman's home in Washington are still pending, the affidavit states.

Renzelman has a history of manufacturing controlled substances, according to the affidavit. In September 2008, while working on a post-graduate degree in chemistry and biochemistry at the University of California, Renzelman was arrested for making homemade beer laced with morphine. According to the investigation, he extracted opium from poppy seeds and then converted the opium to morphine. He completed a pretrial diversion program to avoid conviction.

On Nov. 25, while on bond from the drug charges, he was arrested for allegedly creating a disturbance on an Amtrak train in LaCrosse, Wis., the affidavit states. Renzelman was allegedly carrying synthetic marijuana and appeared to be under the influence of a behavior-altering substance.

Honaker remained in Central Regional Jail without bail on Thursday.

^ I'm pretty sure all drugs change your neurochemical behavior, this guy has no idea what words came out of his face hole.

Thinking changes your neurochemical behaviour. This retard just wanted to sound intelligent to the ignorant masses without knowing anything.

It drives me fucking crazy when they say things like this in articles.
NBOMe was a drug that surfaced about 10 years ago in Germany, a synthetic form of LSD.

Its NBOMe or its LSD. One isn't a different "form" of another - the fact that they both go on blotter paper and both make you hallucinate does not make them different "forms" of the same drug. And what the fuck, "synthetic form of LSD"? As opposed to the kind that we harvest from plants? Ugh.

totally. it's as sad as it's hilarious how they pretend to spread "news" when in reality they just spread disinformation. and to us that are informed is clear and simple that they say complete bullshit, but people who know nothing about the subject actually believe it, and then when you tell them you do drugs they say stuff like "the high you get from weed is actually your neurons frying" stating them as facts.

and wtf they charge her husband for murder for buying the drug for her and not who actually sold it to them stating it was LSD?
this drives me fucking insane.
