LSD, Bad Trips, and Pain in Gut

Hey BlueLight,

I've noticed that I have a pain in my gut, almost like the feeling of having an empty stomach, during bad LSD trips. This only occurs during bad trips. It's not that the pain causes the bad trip, the pain comes later. During good trips I am completely fine.

Has anyone else experienced or heard of this? Perhaps the anxiety associated with the bad trip is causing the pain since anxiety and intestinal pain is a thing?

Thank you.

As you said I'd chalk it up to anxiety being the most likely cause along with your recognition of this pattern triggering it after the anxiety sets in. I've personally dealt with anxiety leading to intense chest pain while tripping or even just getting too stoned. Once I realize it's just anxiety I can usually stop it by drinking some water, eating lightly and doing things to take my mind off of the pain.

Does it feel like it's in your diaphragm more than your stomach, making it seem harder to breathe? I don't have any trips I would classify as "bad" though.

in my experience when i have had more difficult trips, i can experience something like this. however the feeling i get is more of a typical physiological anxiety reaction, that i would experience during bad panic attacks. i dont think it really has to do with the LSD, i think it more has to do with how your mind copes with the psychedelic experience. IMO this is responsible for a lot of the "dirty acid" reports

Do you eat food during a bad trip? If not, the feeling you experienced may actually have been hunger. When I trip I often go almost an entire day without eating.

^ This is a good point. Sometimes I fast before a trip, and sometimes this leads to stomach pain while tripping, it's usually the same as normal hunger pains just worse - I'm also not someone who usually gets hunger pains unless I'm *extremely* hungry, but during a trip where I haven't eaten it's fairly commonplace.

If you're avoiding eating to trip this could also be the cause of some of the anxiety, since psychedelics seem to have the habit of scolding us when we do things that are detrimental to our health. I've definitely had trips take a negative turn when I've avoided eating in order to trip before, so I do it much less often now.

If you are eating normally before and during your trips (that's another thing to remember, even if you ate before your trip, trips are fairly long ordeals, so make sure you eat during the trip too) then it may just be related to the anxiety you're experiencing - anxiety can manifest itself quite physically and this is definitely amplified in trips. Have you ever had a panic attack before? If you have you know very well anxiety can lead to chest pains, feeling out of breath, feeling like you're dying etc - so stomach pains aren't out of the norm.
