LSD is fast emerging as the latest drug of choice in Geelong's party scene.

Its re-emergence over the past two months has surprised police, with detectives fearing the region was spearheading a statewide trend towards the hallucinogenic drug.

Police are also preparing to tackle the drug's popularity by targeting it during raids for other illicit substances.

Regional crime adviser Acting Superintendent Gary Bruce said police had noticed that people selling LSD also had cannabis, cocaine and amphetamines but the acid was much cheaper.

One drop of LSD on a lolly, piece of paper, small biscuit or even a sugar cube was sold for just $10, compared to $25 for the popular ecstasy pills.

"To be quite honest we are not completely sure why the shift in preference," Supt Bruce said.

"It may have a little to do with the cost.

"What we have found of late on operations is that while one person might not have access to LSD, they will exchange some cannabis for that drug.

"They are also more open to exchanging or buying product from other dealers.

"I think part of it is the cheapness, but it's that unusualness of it that is probably interesting these people to experiment with a drug that they haven't tried before."

Supt Bruce said it was traditionally very hard to detect LSD during general raids because it could be stored on paper in a person's wallet or in a bag of food.

Drug dogs were trained to identify the substance, but were not taken on every raid.

"Certainly we will be looking at changing our approach a little bit to take into account the increasing use of LSD," he said.

"The seizures here and the operations here will be discussed state-wide in terms of drug trends and policing.

"It's certainly a lot easier to access the drug now and we will be monitoring more closely that particular issue."

Over the past month, police have charged three men in the Geelong region with drug offences after allegedly finding large quantities of LSD in their possession.

Two of the most recent arrests involved young men who had allegedly planned to sell the drug at the Apollo Bay Music Festival.

first off -
how can a sniffer dog detect an odorless chemical??

second -
i can assure that its nothing to do with the price, but rather, the rarity of lsd nowadays.
its a fact, its just not a common drug anymore.
more common in certain places/regions, yes, but not like it used to be.

IMO psychedelics such as acid are making a HUGE comeback this year.
i would like to hug whoever is responsible

imo, the lsd scene went downhill from 2002-2008 (virtually impossible to find), in 2008 it seemed to be everywhere again, and has been easily accessible ever since. just my experience though...

i don't miss the days of being unable to find lsd.

it's rare? i've never had a problem. gotta love Cali

in the states, you gotta go to a big city if you aren't on the left-coast.. Chicago gets a lot of California lucy, for example.. go wherever there's a huge rave scene

spread the love

Im sure a dog can smell lsd if youve got a considerable amount of crystal/blotter/liquid on you. LSD does smell it's just extremely faint and you need crystal or liquid to smell it & even with liquid sometimes you cant bc of the alcohol compared to the tiny amount of lsd in the dropper

People are sick of shitty pills which are flooding australia atm. add that to shitty coke, getting the message about how stupid GHB is, people are wanting to get high, and LSD is a easy, clean, cheap, long lasting solution.

Also to be noted that fake acid - aka bromo-drangonfly is doing the rounds (in my novice exprince comparing tabs to tabs i have saved for many years). This could be a another cause of the spike... Well thats my opinion anyway.

People also are doing more acid because acid is...well acid is acid. It's a totally unique and amazing drug, it's only logical that people would be buying it. Acid's usually pretty easy to find in Austin, in fact there's less right now then there used to be. The statement that drug dogs can smell it seems a bit fishy to me, but dogs have an amazing sense of smell so who knows.

It is hardly surprising with the shitty state of the current "ecstasy" market in Australia that more people are turning to LSD. Its ridiculous you can get a good trip for half the price of a shitty piperazine pill, I am surprised there aren't even more people dropping acid.

The police sure focus a lot of time on other people's private peaceful lives. I think paranoia is less induced by drugs than it is from invasive law enforcement of private behavior.

I wouldn't mind some acid someday. I haven't eaten any since the 70s. Porky Pig would ruin anyone's trip though. Damned cops.

For fuck's sake it's been "out of fashion" for far too long. LSD is a molecular masterpiece and perhaps my favorite substance of all.

LSD in the UK has been really hard to find for the past few years - in 2006 i was getting bottles and bottles of really high quality LSD and then in 2007 i was geting some half decent tabs now and then but since then i have not found any at all!!

it is defo one of my fav chemicals so i hope to see it back for the summer as per usual!!:)

psykoman!!

LSD is my drug of choice by far and the easiest one I find to get a hold of here in the North (easier than weed even), The past six months I've been tripping more than drinking. Though I've never actually come across anyone else apart from myself who's had it on a night out or in any other situation where I wasn't the one buying it. As far as I know in Manchester atleast Im the only student who goes around dropping acid with consistent regularity :( or can anyone tell me otherwise? I imagine theres a good drug scene that i've not found the only people that I know who do drugs here don't carry themselves very well (Meph Binges, ketamin addiction, shit pills are all the norm etc).

Isn't Bromo D-fly more expensive than acid? Why would people disguise an incredibly potent drug as something less?

Cause ones a Rx that is easier to obtain?

Anyways, its just my opinion. i havnt tripped all that much. All i can judge off are effects.

Yea I know but its also way more potent (effective at like 1-2mg i think). Some guy in Spain (joanmiro is the user name i think) almost died earlier this year from some mislabeled Bromo. I would rather not sell anything than sell some shit that's could kill a kid. Read the joanmiro trip report on Erowid, people would know the difference between bromo and lsd.

Having dropped acid between 30-50 times (I was a deadhead and grew up in the Bay Area in the 70s and 80s were it was rediculously cheap and potent. UV decomposition hadn't set in yet or something. Aside from the guys in the missle silos 90% plus of the LSD from the 60s-90s was being produced by a small group of close knit families based in Northern CA. It would appear they were doing this for the spreading of enlightement this drug has the potential to do. Now in this fucked up, bullshit, whitewashed, lies being sold to the people on a grandscale we need this drug and plenty of it. The difference compared to the most recent pricelist. I was able to buy a sheet (100 hits) in some cases for 3 times the cost of a standard hit. The people making it- and it is a pain in the ass requiring knowledge of color chromatography and doing steps under red or yellow light, ect... hard to find reagents, the people, clearly weren't in it for the money. Then the narcoswine enacted laws counting the vehicle it came in paper, gel, ect... as total dose of LSD which put alot of peaceful hippies in the federal pen for 10-15 years. One of a long line of travesties of justice in the drug war. My college friend was a foreign exchange student in 92' at a U in NSW. Brought lots of coke (oz of pure driven snow)- made lots of friends. At any rate, the amount people were paying for E back then was twice what we were and acid was 10-12 times what we were paying. This drug has the power to change people for good. By the way, if my memory serves me well, LSD fluoresces under a blackligt.)
