It's very hard to tell LSD crystal from other substances based solely on appearance or ability to dissolve in water (if that's what you mean by "break down"?). You should test it using a reagent kit like Ehrlich which will at least confirm the presence of LSD or other indoles (it can't differentiate between them though).

^ Yes. A huge variety of chemicals may look like white or clear crystals. Ehrlich's reagent may help narrow it down.

Potentially yes. There is the additional complication that only a few people in the world will ever have seen LSD crystals too.
