[Preface] I've taken acid probably around 20 times, but nothing could prepare me for this night. I've never had a hard time keeping a level head on any psychedelic and I normally embrace unexpected intensity and negative thoughts; I actually prefer having a difficult time because I feel I learn much more when a trip goes south.

This night however, really taught me the value of set and setting. Tripping at a rave is nothing like tripping at your house, or in nature. It is an extremely intense sensory experience that you should only consider if you have a very level head.

[00:00] I arrived at the rave with my girlfriend (A) who will be dosing with me tonight. The rave had a christmas theme and the music for the night was mainly minimalist techno, breaks, and hard house. The security is very tight and people are being patted down and searched very closely; I'm sure glad I hid my tabs in my phone case, or I'd be in trouble!

I got in, walked to all three rooms of the club (the chill room, the main music room, and the side room), and went in the bathroom to dose two 100ug tabs. I came out, gave A one 100ug tab to dose in the bathroom and after she came back from the bathroom we started dancing. The music was really good and unique and I'm already having a blast. I'm very excited to see how the acid will change the experience!

[01:00]
I begun feeling the acid come-up. Dancing feels very good and "spacey"; it almost felt like I was coming up on MDMA. I was light as a feather and dancing really amplified the electrical surges of sharp euphoria that acid normally gives me. A was enjoying the trip just as much as I am and we are just having the time of our lives!

[1:30] I start feeling slightly anxious and overstimulated, so I get A to come with me to the chill room. The chill room was kind of pathetic; there was one table and set of chairs, it was right beside the main room, and it was just as stimulating as the other two rooms except for the music. We sit on the floor by an inflatable spooky santa claus and I just space out. A is sort of dissapointed, she was thoroughly enjoying dancing and I sort of felt bad. She understands though and tries to comfort me.

Everything looked so weird and distorted at this point. The floor took on water like properties and people took on a very distinct lizard like appearance except for A, who looks surprisingly normal on all drugs. I just sort of spaced out and watched the ravers in the main room dance. It was just so amazing watching a bunch of people dressed up in colorful clothing dance around a room with all the visuals; it was almost like a living painting that just kept redrawing itself with all the tracers and distortions and such.

I'm experiencing no anxiety or fear, but I feel slightly uneasy and uncomfortable. I didn't quite understand the concept of "fun" or dancing, and I couldn't tell if I was having a good time or not. Sure the experience is novel and very fascinating, but is this actually something I'd consider doing again? Is LSD really a drug you should be doing at a rave? The night took an unexpected introspective turn at this point.

[1:45] After what felt like an eternity of just melting into the floor, me and A got up and returned to the dancefloor. We were peaking at this point and dancing felt very bizzare; the best way I could describe it is it felt like we were puppets being controlled by strings pulling our body parts up in the air. Our feet were firmly planted on the floor as we fumbled the rest of our body along to the trance inducing sound of minimal techno. I sort of just glazed over and started at various things around the room while I danced; the front wall with the DJ booth had all sorts of bizzare visuals, the people were looking very strange, and just the DJ looked sort of like a god like entity.

We were dancing close to the wall of the club and some drug dealer approached A. He was complementing her shirt which was a very cool psychedelic pattern, and I went over to say hey. It was very hard to socialize and focus on what he was saying due to the loud music and the acid, but he wanted to know if we wanted to buy some LSD. While he was talking his face took on a very disturbing lizard like appearance and I got a very strange vibe from him. His eyes looked like that of a lizard and from there on out, everybody in the club looked half lizard (except A!). I told him were all set, and that were already tripping face on 2 tabs; we shook hands and hugged and went our separate ways to continue dancing. Who buys, or even sells acid at a club, is LSD actually a club drug like that?

[2:00] A gets thirsty so we decide to buy a bottle of water from the bar. I got up to the counter and signaled the bartender; she was charging five dollars for a single water (what the fuck). I roll my eyes unintentionally and dig money out of my wallet and count it 3 times before handing it to her. She hands me a water and me and A drink it by the bar and discuss how messed up it is to gouge people like that. This is why people die from MDMA! Do they expect people that don't have enough money to just dance until their seizing corpses need to be scraped off the floor?! I understand clubs need to profit off these events, but it just seems to unfair to me to sell water for that much.

[2:30]
Things start to take a negative turn. I'm too stimulated by the lights and sound, and it felt like I was surrounded by half human lizard beings who were dancing to some sort of alien ritual. I wasn't exactly bothered by all this, it was amazing. I just felt like I didn't belong here, at this moment. This sounds delusional as hell now, but I felt like I was in a room filled with creatures that were not like me; I was a human, while they were all lizards. It sort of unnerved me and I got A and retreated to the chill room. We were on a similar wavelength, she felt like the trip was getting a bit too intense for this environment and I kind of agreed with her.

The party ended at 2am due to local club laws, but some guy approached me and A with a flyer for an afterhours club. I could hardly understand what he was saying and with all his piercings and jewelery it seemed like he was an elite lizard recruiting us to join into a ritual! I basically just said yes, ok, yeah to everything he was saying because I was just so focused on how he looked so abstract and otherworldly.

This just pushed me and A over the edge; we were too high to be in this situation. Neither of us felt any sort of fear or panic, we just felt like we needed to get to a more relaxing environment for the rest of the trip. We talked for a bit and agreed to just wait out the rest of the trip in the car and drive home later.

We got up and started walking towards the exit. I had such a difficult time moving due to the acid making me melt into my surroundings and lose focus, and I just kind of meandered through the dancefloor. I was very gone at this point, I was in a trance where all I could focus on is getting to the car. It was very obvious I was trashed because I had a glazed over look in my eyes as I wandered through the crowd. I sort of just stumbled through the security checkpoint at the exit as people were trying to talk to me. We were in the parking lot of the club and already feeling much more at peace. We stumble down the street to our car and just kind of relax for a while, spacing out and looking out at our surroundings and having a quiet period of introspection.

[2:30]-[6:00] Nothing noteworthy happens during this time. We chat about our lives and kind of just play with our raving toys and kandi we brought with us. The people leaving the club look very bizarre and interesting.

[6:00] A has to use the bathroom very bad and we make the VERY dangerous dangerous decision to drive to burger king (Please don't drive on any substance, intoxicated driving kills people.) . I get behind the wheel and drive slowly and cautiously down the road while A used the GPS on her phone to guide me. It was surprisingly easy to drive, but I guess at this point there wasn't much visual activity left and it was just a mental fried feeling.

We arrive at burger king and after we both use the bathroom indoors, we get in the car and order food through the drive through. Everything tastes amazing, we were both starving and the food was just so hot and greasy. She feeds me chicken fries and french fries as I drive us home. I put one of the mixes I made on the car stereo and I'm having the best time just driving.

[8:00]
We arrive at home. I took a shower and got into bed with A. We dosed 4 benadryl pills and fell asleep quickly. We were exhausted!

This trip really taught me that I need to be very careful about set and setting. A rave can be a very overwhelming place to trip even if you have extensive experience with psychedelics! I'm sort of dissapointed I didn't get to stay for the whole event. I missed some DJ's I really wanted to see at the end of the night and I didn't socialize or trade kandi at all like I usually do! :(

2 am end? what a shit party sorry but thats patheteic

yeah the mental crazy from acid can ruin its otherwise good dance potential

reminds me of that fear and loathing scene where everybody turns into lizards , I wouldn't like being confined to a room full of people on acid it's a bad trip waiting to happen for me.

Thanks for sharing your story. I too have found LSD and other psychedelics to be mostly unpleasant when taken at raves.... In my mind I have come to see it as defeating the point of taking a psychedelic, which is to see what it's unique form of sensory overload can do to your consciousness. If you are just going to add another form of sensory overload on top of that you are generally just going to be pushing it into confusing territory and actually robbing some of the potential of the trip; better to be in the most relaxed environment possible so that you can see what the psychedelic can do while uninhibited by other forces.

I wanted to make this quick note too.... It's good that you didn't buy acid at the club and I highly recommend that you never do. Speaking from experience, I feel pretty confident in saying that clubs have by far the lowest quality drugs and highest number of scams you will ever find because people new to drugs who don't know any better or how to find their own dealers love talking it up as the place to go get everything good, and dealers know this and the fact that people buying drugs at clubs are almost invariably intending to take said drugs in the immediate future without having the ability to test them first, and on top of that they have no accountability because they can just be random people you don't even know. For this reason clubs are basically a place where you can dump anything you have that won't sell on newbies who won't know the difference, be it piperazines as MDMA, NBOMes as LSD, or what have you.... While it is entirely possible that you can find good drugs at clubs too, I would say that the risk of health complications from things like NBOMes of unknown identity and dose outweighs the reward you would get from finding real LSD there when you could just get it somewhere else too. Just my two cents on the matter....

good post kaleida I never bought drugs in a club it is indeed a loser's game except for mdma and amphetamines which are very cheap and available where I live (the netherlands).

and the only "psychedelic" which is perfect for raves is mdma, I can imagine tripping at a festival though if you have a tent and friends but that's worlds away from what's basically a nightclub.
