The past few days I re-used Micron filters that were sitting around for 3-4 days. Today i've been having sharp-ish pains in my lower left abdomen. I know it could be anything but do you suggest I start some antibiotics [I have a Z-Pak sitting around] just in case?

I don't think that this is something we can advise you on, other than to say you should see a doctor. It doesn't sound like something that antibiotics would cure.

Thanks for the response, appreciate it. I've just heard of these 'infections' due to IV'ing (even in peoples backs etc) and was wondering if I should take countermeasures now - just in case

Since I used a Micron I imagine the likelyhood of an infection is a lot less though, even if it was used already? Is it possible that bacteria in the filter can squeeze through into the output solution?

Have you been making sufficient bowel movements? Opiates obviously cause constipation, and the "emptying" side of the colon is on the left, as is the rectum. If you are indeed constipated, take something to stimulate or ease a bowel movement, if the pain continues after enough has been passed, consulting a doctor would be a good idea. If you aren't experiencing abnormal constipation, I'd see a doctor.

I emptied this morning pretty efficiently (twice) before getting down. Not sure how much else I could have in me :(

I'm always against taking antibiotics when you have not been diagnosed by a doctor. It can end up working against you in the future when you really need them, and you may need stronger antibiotics if become immune to a particular kind.

Agreed, at the same time though, starting antibiotics early before the bacteria multiplies beyond belief, can be a game-changer

^ Ahh, it appears you have found yourself in a pickle. Time for you to make an educated decision. I really wonder what type of bacterial infection would be causing that pain.

I was worried about Endocarditis ..

Symptom =

"Tenderness in your spleen — an infection-fighting abdominal organ on your left side, just below your rib cage"

I have some other symptoms as well but I'm not sure if that's just withdrawal etc

^ Keep in mind that a Z-Pak might not be effective against whatever the possible infection may be.

Lower left abdominal pain could be related to the colon. I had a good bit of discomfort there after quitting opiates and benzos-- it was like a bout of temporary colitis or something. Anyway, I'd see a doctor if it gets worse or does not clear up. If the pain prevents you from walking or touching the area, or if you get a fever, seek medical help.

I would be shocked if it was an infection. See if the pain persists and worsens and whether you have other symptoms of infection (that definitely aren't withdrawal symptoms), and if so, go to a doctor. It is NOT a good idea to be randomly taking antibiotics. Antibiotics are really bad for your health and kill your immune system, so they should only be taken when you absolutely unequivocally need them. Plus what makes you think these particular antibiotics would treat it even if it was endocarditis or something?

If you hadn't already said you had a bowel movement today I would be 99% sure it was constipation. However, it could definitely still be constipation (just because you went doesn't mean there isn't more in there) or a host of other bowel/colon related issues, which are extremely common for opiate users. Most of the time pain in that area is caused by your colon.

If you're really that worried or it's extremely severe and getting rapidly worse, go see a doctor.

More specifics would be helpful in giving a more accurate assessment. The exact area of the pain, what it feels like, what your other symptoms are, whether they go away completely when you use, does it feel worse when you press on it, does it feel better or worse when you massage the area, etc etc.

Thanks.

That whole area is tender to touch. Pushing on it hurts, more so lower, but it doesn't extend into my groin.

Fingernails are all red underneath
some light pressure in chest / shortness of breath
Lethargic / Tired
Feel weird
Loss of appetite

Again, some of these things could just be withdrawal ..

Pain is worst around belly button / diagonal left from belly button.

I don't think its the spleen, pain just radiates when I push around the rib cage.

does it make you sweat or get light headed..the reason i ask is cuz i use to have pain in my lower abdomen that would drive me crazy it was unbearable at times

epiploic appendagitis?

You are going to have to go to the doctor to find out anything for sure, so that's that.

Sounds like it could be a kidney infection..I've just gotten over a kidney infection that put me in hospital for three days.

Keep the fluids up and get to a doctor before the infection gets too bad to respond to oral antibiotics
