Low Natural Tolerance?

I'm curious about my natural tolerance to opiates. It seems like I may be "lucky", in that I have a low one. Let me give you some background....

In 1997, I managed to pick up a heroin habit. I insuffated H daily for about 8 months. It was a GREAT way to kick my coke addiction. 8( I started with half a bag, but at the end of 8 months was up to around 5 bags or so of decent east coast stuff. I was able to kick easily enough due to some personal circumstances (finding my girl at the time in bed with the dealer). I was a "good boy" for well over ten years. Then I found a connection for pills. I took oxy, hydro, dilaudid, whatever i could find. I did this pretty much daily for two years. On a bad day, I'd blow through maybe 60 mg of oxy and 8-12mg of dilaudid, but even at the end of that run, I'd still feel pretty good on about 15 mg of oxy. Through research and reading, it seems like people are using WAY more oxy, even as a starting point I read all the time about people taking 15 mg as a first dose, and "not really feeling much". When I first started, 15 mg woulda had me puking my guts out. I've also noticed that for me, withdrawal doesn't begin until about 24 hrs after my last dose. I guess I'm just curious if a "natural" low tolerance could exist. As a side note, my mom can't take any opes at all (they'd give em to her, she'd puke, I'd raid the cabinet). Could this be somewhat genetic? Am I just lucky? Is it because I never chased the high/pushed the envelope and only dosed one to three times a day? Just a random curiosity. Opinions welcome...

I've seen people vomit over 5mg of hydrocodone, this one girl in particular. It's all brain chemistry, we're all different.

Some people just metabolize certain drugs differently. I used to have a low tolerance to opiates...I remember taking half of a 7.5 lortab and feeling damn good. Half a decade later and it takes me multiple bags of heroin iv to feel that.

You seem to be opposite of me; I started out taking 40-60mg Oxycodone :\.
It's definitely possible.

When I was opiate naive, 5mg of Oxycodone would floor me. No exaggeration. Floored. My tolerance peaked around 350mg/day, but it has taken me years to work up to that point, and I was pretty good about not increasing my tolerance too quickly.

The point is, we're certainly all different. I have friends who started with 30mg of Oxycodone, they handled it without vomiting also, which is impressive IMO. 60mg is much too much for an opiate naive individual, and if that worked for you, that's all well and good, but that could be a potentially dangerous dose for someone with a starting tolerance similar to mine.

In most cases, a first time user of Oxy shouldn't need more than 10-15mg of Oxy to feel good. I'd always recommend starting at 5, and going from there.

Thats a pretty hardcore natural tolerance!

First time I used Oxy I took around 15 - 20mg and was in absolute bliss. That was Spring/Summer 2010, by Spring/Summer 2012 I was having to take 400mg in a single dose to get anything out of it.

OP - Count yourself lucky. :)

Yeah, people just have different 'natural tolerances' as you called it. I'm kinda like you, the first time I took oxy I was just sitting in front of the toilet throwing up for about 3 hours hah, and that was with like 10mg. You're lucky you could still feel good with low doses after an addiction though, that's certainly not my case anymore...first time I did heroin, last september, it was maybe like 30mg snorted or something and now a few months later I'm able to inject around 100mg. Stupid thing goes up fast :\

Tolerance and metabolism are two different things. Metabolism is the rate at which your body can process a drug. Tolerance is related to the rate of downregulation of the receptors that are antagonized by a drug.

You could just be a slow metabolizer, which means you need less of the drug to get ripped because your body maintains peak levels of the drug for longer. Opiates are processed by the liver enzyme CYP2D6. You could have only one copy of it (instead of two like normal metabolizers), which means less enzyme to do the work of breaking it down. If you've ever done LSD, MDMA, mushrooms, or ketamine and need less of a dose for those too, then chances are you have slow metabolizer status.

Your receptors are no more or less sensitive than the average person. Your tolerance would change if, at the same dosing level, you do not experience the same high.

Closed as this thread can lead only to endless speculation. Everyone is effected differently by various substance, and your brain chemistry simply can't be assessed via the internet. PM any questions.
