Hey everyone I have a question with people who experienced subs. I have severe chrons disease and plenty of issues and my problem is they start me on pain meds an then a month later say I don't need them and I'm tired of going back an forth so I'm getting off them. I was only taking around 60mg of oxy a day which I know is significantly lower than most but don't have the will power to go thru withdrawal alone. I've tried before an was successful but than had an ulcer rupture an the pain was too much so I started my pain regimen again. Well this time I want to try again. I can get thru the day only taking .5mg of subs an was curious if I slowly taper over a week period if I can get thru withdrawal that way or if I would still withdrawal from subs. I have will power but I just can't so the restless leg crap that's what makes it unbearable for me. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance!

Hi Zach! I also have crohns, so yay for us! ;)

If you are asking if you'll have to taper off the buprenorphine after only taking it for seven days to treat the acute withdrawal from something like oxycodone, then no, you don't have to worry about withdrawal from buprenorphine after taking it for just one week.

I don't feel that was very clear, so let me put it another way...

If you are using buprenorphine to help you get through the withdrawal from something like oxycodone, you will not experience withdrawal from the buprenorphine when you stop taking it. This applies when you're only using buprenorphine for one or two weeks to treat acute withdrawal.

If you've been taking buprenorphine for months, then you may want to taper off the 0,5mg. That's fucking awesome that you've managed to get by on such a low dose, and I commend you for it! It's a powerful drug, isn't it? Anyways, if you're tapering off the buprenorphine make sure you take your time. Try to avoid dropping too fast, and stay at the new dose once you make an adjustment for at least a couple weeks whenever possible, really a month if you can. That will give your body plenty of time to adjust.

With comfort meds like loperamide, clonazepam/diazepam/temazepam, kratom, clonidine, gabapentin/pregabalin/baclofen, cannabis, etc. etc., the withdrawal from taking 0,5mg for even months and month or years won't be that bad.

Just remember, if you've only been taking buprenorphine for a week or two, you really don't have to taper or worry about experiencing withdrawal from the buprenorphine. When you stop taking you're not going to feel amazing, but you won't actually be withdrawing from it. You're body will just be adjusting to like without any foreign opioids in it and moving back to homeostasis.

@toothpastedog yea man I even take smaller doses than .5 actually. I've done it before. But now it's just time to get off everything. I don't have health insurance so I have to go to the er for my meds and now they just look at me as someone trying to get high when in all reality I have very severe chrons and other issues and can't afford to see the right doctors. I've made the decision that I'd rather suffer with pain than go thru withdrawals every week because I'm scared what the hospital is going to think and that they will flag me so if I ever need the medicine again I can't get it. It sucks because I'm 23 and lost my beautiful home, car, my best friends and girl all over this vicious chrons disease that I can't treat because I wasn't blessed into a wealthy family. It made we realize alot. You'd think I was a drug addict but in all reality I've never once taken my medications to get high. But unfortunately still have a physical dependence because I was on them for so long. I have severe anxiety but still only receive 1mg of Ativan a day when I should have atleast 2mg for my panic attacks. And still it's almost impossible for me to receive that. I'm going to nna have to go to the er either today or tomorrow to receive that since my doctor won't give me anything since I had to go to the er cuz she said a real man doesn't take drugs for pain when clearly I was in pain. I kn ridiculous. But gotta take what I can get without insurance. My will power is strong and that's why I get by on only .5 or less of subs. Just wish some blessing would happen so I could actually treat my pain instead of suffer. Thanks for your words I really appreciate it. Take care.
