I often use Harmala alkaloids(extracted from rue), for its antidepressant and meditation aid effects, I feel really great taking them and I feel they are really benign and healthy. I have used Selegiline as a nootropic a few times and also to (hopefully) reduce amphetamine neurotoxicity.

Harmalas are reversible inhibitors of MAO-A (RIMA), great antidepressants and useful to potentiate DMT and other Tryptamines.

Selegiline is an irreversible inhibitor of MAO-B, good parkinson's therapy, antidepressant and greatly improves longevity +30% (proven at least in rats).

I wonder what could be the effects of taking low doses of both, to augment and complete the antidepressant action and the overall effects, also for life improvement and extension.
I know they could cause dangerous interactions with tyramine rich foods in high doses, but I'm talking about low doses where MAO-B is not fully inhibited by Selegiline and MAO-A inhibition will be reversible because of the reversible nature of Harmalas.
I have heard that old MAOIs aside food interaction problems were really effective, maybe the most effective antidepressant drugs ever, so maybe taking two drugs targeting the two MAOs but with at least one of them being reversible could lead to the same results but with fewer side efects.
It would be interesting to see if there is a reversible MAO-B inhibitor and combine that with Harmalas.

Has anybody tried this combo??
I would appreciate any kind of info, first, second or third hand as you wish!!

Thank you!
Peace n Light!

selegeline and syrian rue

I've been doing 10mg selegiline a day for a couple months. It's stimulating to the point that I have to take a low dose of phenibut (~100mg) and/or a beer before bed to get a good solid 8 hours sleep... Otherwise I get 5-6 hours of crappy, interrupted sleep.

I took two days off selegiline and consumed 4 grams of ground syrian rue seed spaced out over a day.

I notice that on doses of 15+ mg of selegiline a day colors get more vibrant, especially yellows and reds. (I guess this is selegeline losing it's mao-b selectivity).
The world starts to "move more smoothly" and everything seems/feels "cleaner" or "more pure", if that makes any sense.

I get the same effect when I take 1-2 grams of ground syrian rue seed on lower doses of selegiline. I notice sedating effects if I take much over a gram of syrian rue. I took 2.4grams at once and fell asleep for a couple hours.

Of course, I'm really careful about avoiding cheese, bananas, beer etc when I notice maoi-a effects.

Today I took 10mg of selegiline. I plan on taking 1-2 grams of ground syrian rue seed later in the day. Perhaps something funny could happen where somehow taking the rue in addition to the selegiline could cause the selegiline to start irreversibly inhibiting mao-a somehow? dunno. I doubt it.

If I don't post back here with a horror story, just assume everything went fine. I haven't noticed any problems so far with selegiline and rue. I suspect everything will be fine.

Well, taking 10mg of selegiline after being off syrian rue for 12 hours hit me like a ton of bricks. I've never felt maoi-a effects that strong from any dose of selegiline, and I've taken up to 20mg at a time.

Seems like the rue isn't quite as reversible as I thought... :P Not sure exactly what happened. I don't particularly want to repeat the experience again.

No cheese for me for a while, I guess. Hope it wears off soon.

It's only aged cheese that you have to avoid.

Selegiline is 8 times stronger if not swallowed. It has a horrible bioavavailability.

I've taken as much as 120 mg orally and like as much as 30 mg rectally. No memorable effects.

You don't need to take selegiline everyday:
